@jessicadarling:  I don’t see anything wrong with doing something like this in a scenario like yours. This is really exciting!!

@jessicadarling:  How exciting! I’m in the same boat as you. We’ll be booking our venue before the engagement because (1) places here book up super early and (2) the deposit for the venue will be relatively small compared to the cost of the ring.

Let us know how the second venue is!

Have fun! We have a date picked already, lol. We just need a couple more things to fall into place first and then we can share it with everyone else

Eta: we have tentatively picked a venue but need to see it. The crab stuffed shrimp was what sold dbf

@jessicadarling:  Good for you guys! I’m glad to see someone else around here is planning before the ring. Hopefully people will be nicer to you about it than they were to me.

@badabing88:  I think that some people assume that if the engagement isn’t official, the groom must not really want it, so it’s disrespectful to him to plan. However, if you’re planning together, I don’t see how that applies.

@Laurenplusalex:  Key word: “assume.” In my situation, despite saying in alllllll of my posts how “we” were planning or “we” bought my dress, a couple of bad apples still decided to give me a hard time about it. I hope OP doesnt have the same issue.

That’s pretty much what we did!  I had my venue and photographer before the ring.

@badabing88:  yeah I got a hard time because we, as in both of us, made a small wedding related purchase together. Oh well. I’ve been called worse than a waster of money :-p

i wish i could do this…

I really want a late-april, early may wedding in 2013. I know the ring is coming (I’m 98% sure he ordered it a few weeks ago) but I don’t think he would be OK with me putting down deposits on things. 🙁  I’ll probably just have to wait until 2014. But on the plus side, it gives us time to save more $$ to put towards the wedding.
