Go to your Social Security office and see what they say. I had to get a replacement card last year and it only took like 2 days to come in the mail. When are you getting your marriage license?

I found this online:

In South Carolina, both applicants will need to bring a Social Security card or Alien Identification card. If you no longer have your physical Social Security card, you must bring some other paperwork that displays the full number, such as a paystub or voter registration card. You will also need to present some form of identification, such as a certified birth certificate, driver’s license, state issued identity card, military identification card, or valid passport.

I would call your local clerks office (or wherever you will be gettin gthe license from) to make sure that the above information is accurate. They should be able to give you some options.

@dreamer1288:  I don’t think I needed my social security card for my marrage license.  Just a drivers license.

@peachacid:  No, GA

But it may apply in SC too. Call the court up and tell them you have no clue where it is but you know the SS# and see if you can slide by that. Law is here we have to have ours and we prefilled the application, and put our SS# and they didnt even ask us for the cards

I needed my social security card for my marriage license in South Carolina (Charleston County). I also went to the same county for my new card once I changed my name, I received the new social very quickly (I think I went Monday and had it by Friday), painless process. I would call the marriage license office and ask if they take anything else.

@dreamer1288:  weirdest thing ever (or at least I thought)- we went to get our marriage license, and they didn’t ask either one of us for any form of identification.  You could really screw with people LOL

To @dreamer1288:  thanks for the UPDATE

Mr TTR & I were originally planning to marry in SC, so here is what we discovered about the state…

The Rules and how they are applied can differ from County to County…

Make sure that you know PRECISELY what the County Clerk at the Courthouse where you plan to process your paperwork thru (Marriage License / Certificate) wants.

Unlike other States you cannot get a South Carolina wide Marriage License… it has to be issued by the County your Wedding will be in.

In our case thru our research, we found that for example that Horry County (Myrtle Beach) interpreted things quite differently from Charleston County (Charleston) which was literally “next door” on the map.

Hope this helps,

I’m sure you don’t need it. My husband didn’t have his and they didn’t care. Just bring something with your SS# if you’re worried.

@dreamer1288:  You can get a new SS card pretty quickly.  When I changed my name, my new card came in less than a week.
