“An open bar with hard alcohol”

And no, that does not mean what you think it means.  He thought an “open bar” meant handles of liquor (“We can buy them at Costco!”) set out on a table for the guests to mix on their own drinks with.

No darling, that’s not allowed in this state.  Thank god…

Also:

“All the groomsmen can buy custom matching suits! ($600+ each)”  Yeah hun, go tell them that!  They are definitely going to be as excited as you are!

@searock:  What’s wrong with burgers?  Weddings are about two people coming together, not one person getting her princess party.

@peachacid:  apparently OP didn’t think that was a nice enough reception food for her. Why do you have to instantly jump to the conclusion that that means she is requiring a “princess party?” (whateve the heck that means…)

Geez…. if you can’t say anything nice, you don’t have to say anything at all!

@searock:  I totally want the In-N-Out truck for my reception 🙂 It’s the most universally loved food I know of! In Southern California anyway.

@peachacid:  +1

@searock:  Not only are we having burgers at our reception, but (gasp! the horror!) hot dogs as well.

@BruinBeeMPH:  +1 In-and-Out is incredible. We started getting them in texas about 2 years ago, and everyone is hooked. I’d give my right arm to have In-and-Out at a reception over the bland chicken at one we recently attended.

@badabing88:  when I was younger, I was always so surprised when someone from out of state would say, “What’s In-N-Out?” I live about 10 minutes from where the original one used to be and since there were so many in my area, I assumed they were everywhere. Glad you got one in your area 🙂 everyone should have one!

the only thing DH asked for he got (and I didn’t realize until too late). He wanted a dessert bar instead of a groom’s cake. ok, awesome! He sent the caterer his mom’s fruit salad recipe: get all the fruit you ever liked, cut it up, pour orange juice concentrate, a bit of rum, and orange liquor over it and mix well…

He didn’t think to tell her to leave out the booze.

Halfway through the reception I get a moment to actually notice things and see all our underaged/abstains for relegious reasons guests devouring the yummy, colorful fruit salad.

I managed to get to the caterer in time for about 60% of the salad to get taken up and hid in the back >_<

FI wanted straight techno music for the reception. I instictively threw out a big no and then felt bad to shoot him down like that. I later explained we can have some music integrated with more mainstream techno, but straight up techno is not appropriate because X, Y, Z. That one took me by suprise though and I couldn’t get out a sugar-coated response fast enough! 😉

He also wanted his parents to cook and serve the food. Hell to the no.

He once said we should have a Mario themed wedding, though in jest. Hello, groom’s cake idea!

FI thought we could maybe start a garden and grow our own flowers to use at the wedding. Oh, isn’t he cute though?!

@badabing88:  You must be having a ho down as well.

I want an In and Out burger.  Are they cooked to order, like medium rare etc, or are they like Five Guys?

@BruinBeeMPH:  Ah! I’ve never had one 🙁 They don’t exist around here and I never even heard of them until I was in college!

@searock:  The only thing in that list I think is a little cray is having the wedding at 5am. Everything else sounds kinda fun to me!

My groom wanted to pop out behind the alter when people weren’t listening, with smoke and everything, to “The Final Countdown.” I would’ve actually been okay with it, but it was too complicated to figure out logistically. 😛
