I swear the most aggravating part of having a storm phobia is the sheer number of people who, when you mention you’re afraid of storms and WHY you’re afraid of storms, say “Oh, I really love storms! :D”
Dude. I don’t care. Nobody really cares. I live in terror every summer and can never relax thanks to the threat of pop-ups, and you go on about how STORMS ARE SO AWESOME like a douchebag.
Also frustrating: People who suggest I do my homework on storms, because that whole class I took on weather & climate in college didn’t count at all, and if I just read up on storms, my fear will magically go away! Erm, knowing what causes lightning doesn’t make it any less random and terrifying. Knowing how tornadoes are made doesn’t stop them from being destructive and terrifying. Just shut the fuck up, ‘k?

I’m assuming you live in the mid west somewhere…

Awwww, storms are so magestic and cool!
LOL, trolling you OP – although I do like storms as long as they aren’t too extreme – but I’m sorry you’re having such a hard time with it. People can be pretty thick-headed. It’s like if I talked about my phobia of spiders, then someone starts talking about how they eat other bugs. Just, piss off, I don’t want to hear that.

@PinkPinstripes: I’m actually in the southeast, and had a pop-up earlier today. I’m SO glad I’m not out in the midwest.

Take a chill pill, goddamn.

If a storm starts to look really bad, I get a bit freaked out. I’ve actually heard someone say I hope there’s a tornado. WTF? That just pissed me off. We were in the city, and even if no one was injured or worse, killed by the tornado, it’s still costly to clean up the damage.

yes, i live in oklahoma and storms are NOT cool.
they are terrifying.

I get anxious during storms too.

@strawbs: That was uncalled for. I think you’re the one who needs a chill pill. If you’re not sympathetic, go to another thread.

I have a super irrational phobia, and when people find out about it, they react the same- “Why are you afraid of that?”, “How could you be afraid of that?! It’s silly!”, “I have no issues with it, why do you?”
Yeah, I don’t need to explain my phobia to anyone, thank you.
But yeah, I Feel you on storms not being cool. I don’t enjoy them either at all.

If you’re allowed to say you don’t like storms, then they are allowed to say they do. Clearly if they said that, it was only in reaction to YOU giving YOUR opinion. If you don’t want them to say anything, then take your own advice and shut your mouth. Your anger at these people is misplaced and kind of f*cked up. Everyone is entitled to their opinions.

@NotTheDoctor: i think its different for phobias though. i think if someone says
“im shit scared of _____” and your reply is “really. im not”. well woop de doo for them. i think thats a bit fucked up
your post comes off a bit aggressive. like disproportionately so. saying shut your mouth is just rude and uncalled for.

@newname_99: My post is aggressive? … Did you even read OP’s?? Obviously people who don’t have phobias aren’t innately going to understand hers. If she doesn’t want to hear people counter her feelings with their own take on the matter, then she shouldn’t bring it up in the first place. It’s just childish, really.

er yeah, but shes coming from a vent/anxious perspective whereas you seem to be coming from a snarky perspective. whatever

I don’t think the OP was trying to hurt anyone: I think she was just anxious and freaked out and going for a little comedic effect to calm herself.
OP, you sound like my DS earlier today. We had a thunderstorm this evening. Myself, yes I do enjoy storms- they are generally harmless here and provide a good lightstorm. I try to make DS as brave as possible so I told him about the storm and how fun it is to watch lightning and count the seconds before the thunder, and that really you are safe so long as you stay inside.
However, like you, he looked at me like I had three heads and ducked for cover under some pillows. It was adorable.
Hope you don’t get too stressed! 🙂 It’ll be over before you know it.
