Honestly, I don’t tell people I’m looking at it. SO knows, but he doesn’t care. He compares it to looking at football stats and sports stuff.

prettyinpink11:  Same with mine lol.

I think my only friend who would even understand is my best friend and that’s because she likes to look as well.

Im the same with dresses. Besides WB, I record and watch SYTTD in secrecy. FI knows, but I try to do it when he’s busy or not home to say “can we watch something else?”, which is sort of the equivalent to me sitting through hours and hours of hunting or fishing shows.  No thanks.

Im hhoping once we get married I will turn my attention towards something more productive,  like furthering my education or obsessing over buying a house. 🙂

I don’t talk about it to others. I’m not embarrassed by it or anything. I’m just the only one that would care

Baybeejulia:  same here. My husband knows, but he don’t care he thinks it’s cute.  None of my friends know about the site, but I have always been obsessed with rings so I doubt anyone would care.

I don’t tell anyone because honestly I’m slightly embarrassed, like I’m a little worried I’ll come across as shallow and materialistic. My boyfriend first took it that way, and was like “why do you care about a ring, focus on the fact I want to marry you.” so I explained it’s for two reasons: 1) to keep me sane while Mr Dreamy is making me wait for months for the man I love to ask me to marry him! He is fine with it now, I have no problem with him browsing for porn and he has no problem with me browsing for ring porn. xD and 2) I fekkin love design! And fashion! And culture! Because this forum really does give an insight into different traditions and cultures in marriage and engagement, and being a humanist, I find it super interesting!

Baybeejulia:  I get it! I’ve been looking here for months, and still looking even now I have my ring. I guess it’s just a phase though, eventually I will tire myself out, but there is nothing wrong with looking at pretty sparkly things 🙂

edit – I just thought isnt it the same as people who love shoes? or handbags? or the guy I know who has a million different pairs of trainers?

Baybeejulia:  I find it fun to check them all out. My mom wore neat jewlery so I always have done that/ But I don’t tell anyone that I look a them. Its not something that I would bring up anyways.

Baybeejulia:  I understand your obsession! Jewelry is in my blood. I remember being a little girl and my grandmother would take out her collection on occasion and show me every piece she had, explaining the stones and why it was important to her–I would look forward to those nights! She had everything stowed away in a dark green, velvet jewelry box and I was smitten with it.

Everyone should have an interest or hobby. It points towards being a well rounded person. Jewelry has been something that people have collected and admired for centuries. There is no shame in it.

This is a cool website where you can get a lot of information + insight from real people. For instance, we might not all have friends that share a passion for jewelry. Here, you can find other people who are enthusiastic about your passion too. I personally was attracted to this site first, because I am interested in becoming a gemologist and second, to gain tips on how to put together a wedding (I’ve never actually been to one!!). 🙂

I look all the time, I just like to see what is out there, it is the same thing about looking at runway shows to me, I just like to see what is new.

I pretty much keep my ring / jewelry obsession a secret from my friends.

My DH knows I spend way more time on the ring boards than I probably should. He thought it was funny at first, but now he’s even told me I should check into getting a gemologist certification. Which I think I would love, if I could manage to do it.

Sometimes, I feel guilty about it because I’ve been married for a while. I don’t have any good excuse for being on a wedding site. So I know most of my friends wouldn’t understand. And my extended family members would just think I’m materialistic (which is what my mom told me when she saw me taking pictures of my rings — lol).

But I love jewelry — pretty much any style, shape, kind, etc. And I love seeing the variety of designs that people on this site pick out to wear.
