Hi bees, I feel really bumbed out right now because for a while now my family has been trying to say yes to other things they can do the day of my graduation, which is next Saturday. Today this guy called my little brother that if he could help him out next Saturday with something, and he was about ready to say yes! My dad, brother, and Fiance are out of town working, this guy came up to my dad and told him he had work available next weekend if he was interested, and well my dad said no because of my graduation (during the week he got invited to a family cookout the day of the grad and he was ready to say yes to that!) but my brother started telling him that it was work and that they have already been to my graduations before (HS/Associates) so that they should just work instead which infuriated my Fiance and he told my brother that if he didnt want to go to my graduation not to go but that he was coming home because he was going to be there! I love FI! So yeah after hearing this I cried a little because I feel like nobody cares to be there that day. I mean my parents arent even throwing anything for me (but I bet if it was my brother they would have gotten a venue just like they did with his HS grad and I got a home party)! I told my mom that I dont want to walk anymore, but she is making me. I think my brother is just jealous because he never got any type of college degree and he is 5 years older than me.
I hope Fiance family is a little more loving than mine, because mine are being pretty harsh and they dont even realize it!

I am so sorry hon! That really sucks. At least fi is going now right? I almost was the Olny one to go to my fis graduation, his parents didn’t want to close the store for a few hours. Eventually I told them, gee I would be heartbroken if my parents didn’t come to my graduation but I’m sure eventually I would understand ….sheesh.

@imalittlebirdie: wow thats horrible! I thought my family was the only one like that! But yes Fiance is going 🙂 he’s been there for all three of them 🙂 & I know my family will go too, but more out of guilt than actually wanting to be there.

How far would they have to drive?
No one but Fiance witnessed mine, but my family is all a plane ride away. He got some great HD video of me, so I will just play that for my family on my laptop.

Yep! I know the feeling!
For my Associates – I got cards and a party.
For my BS, my immediate family attended but no cards or party.
For my MS my SO (now my EX) attended. Not a single card!
For my PhD – I was by my lonesome. No one even uttered Congratulations.
I walked for every degree and I was proud every time. Too bad if others could not value my hard work – now I make more money than any of them so now I have the last laugh!
CONGRATULATIONS! BE PROUD OF YOUR ACHIEVEMENT!!!

@sienna76: I live with my family so they shouldnt have an excuse (dad is out working right now but returs Monday, but since he got offerd an extra week thats when brother thought they should take it but Fiance disagreed and shut everyone up) other family that is coming to see me they live 3 hours away, but they havent made one excuse not to be there. Great that your Fiance was able to get it on video thought! 🙂
@KT808: Oh gosh I’m so sorry about that, but like you mentioned you make more money than all of them so you should be very proud for those great accomplishments! 🙂 & thank you btw!

When things like this happen to me, I buy myself a nice little spa day and say screw them! Make yourself happy, even if a spa day isnt what you’re into, do something for you and let them know how much fun you had if it ever comes up. (And if you’re on a budget like me, groupon is your best friend!)

Oh man, this is so sad! I would come out and cheer you on if I could. 🙂 I know how you feel, though. When I graduated with my MA, I suggested that my roommate come, and she literally laughed in my face and said she had better things to do that day. I guess it didn’t matter that I had gone to see her graduate the year before…

@Excited To Bee: Lol thank you, this sounds like a great idea! I’m broke now, but Fiance wants to take me shopping because of all this, so I may just let him 😉
@parasol: Aww thank you, means a lot! And that is horrible that she did that, I would have slapped her in the face! Sorry but acting like a B***H when you went to see her graduate is not right at all! I would have cheered for you if I was near 🙂
