We need help! We cannot decide where to go for our honeymoon.

    • FI hates beaches, so doesn't want to do a resort on an island or anything like that.
    • FI hates California.
    • FI also hates Mexico, so anything in Mexico is out.
    • Unfortunately, Europe is not in our budget.
    • We don't want to do a cruise.

Does anyone have any ideas for us? (Ugh, he is picky!)

What about wine country in California?  Napa and Sonoma?  There's also Las Vegas and maybe doing a tour of the National Parks out that way too.

I would've suggested skiing but you're getting married in June.

I was going to say San Francisco which was where we went for our honeymoon, until I saw that he hates California!  What about a mountain trip to somewhere in Colorado or Jackson Hole Wyoming. I also like Chicago... great food and lots to do and see. Or what about something closer to you like Vancouver?

Also, check out the honeymoon in my hometown series several bees did a while back. You might get some good ideas there. Good luck!

I was also going to suggest Napa Valley...who hates California? :)

If you are outdoorsy types of people Maine is fun - the coastline is amazing and while there are beaches they are not typical 'beaches'

Napa was my first suggestions too.  Why does FI hate CA?

I love Savannah, GA.  Its such a beautiful town.  Would that work for your parameters?

What about Colorado - the mountains, hiking, spas, etc?

Or you could go super old school with your honeymoon and go to Niagra Falls!

Mrs Sprinkle just went to VA and seemed to have an awesome vacation ...

What does FI like to do?

Vegas is also a great idea!  There are zillions of things to do (even if you don't gamble).

We're shooting for Napa.  We live in Florida and want to avoid beaches or anything tropical.  Otherwise, we might go to North Carolina.

@stephinPA and Miss Gloss - I could possibly convince him of Napa Valley, because I'd love to go there myself! When he thinks of California, he thinks of L.A. (he hates big cities) and just assumes the whole state is tainted - LOL! Needless to say, he's never actually been there!

I would love to go to Maine, too. My family used to live up there, so I'm sure they could give us some tips on where to go. Or Vermont!

I was also going to suggest San Francisco and Napa/Sonoma, but that's out, huh?

What about Charleston, SC?  Bigger than Savannah, wonderful food and lots to do.

What about Montreal? If Europe is out of your budget, but Canada is still an option for you, it might be a great alternative! It's a beautiful city!

New Orleans is also a great city! So much to do, and such good food and music!

Do you guys like mountains / hiking?  New England could be nice -- either Vermont or Maine maybe.  You could check out some nice B&Bs.  I also second the idea of Jackson Hole -- you could also see Yellowstone while you're there.  It turns out there are some nice hotels *inside* Yellowstone National Park, which is super-convenient.  We went to Yellowstone (and stopped briefly in Jackson Hole) this summer on our cross-country trip, and I thought it was AMAZING.  Also, Vancouver and/or Vancouver Island would make a great honeymoon too!

    Here's my ideas:

Canadian Rockies- Chateau Lake Louise, Banff, Jasper Park, etc.

Acadia Nat'l Park in Maine - Lot's to do. You are by the ocean, but it's not a beachy place.

    New Orleans

Also second the Las Vegas idea.

@Sage - I've been to Sonoma and San Fran before - 100% INCREDIBLE.  I've never been to LA but I'm going to venture to say that it's NOT like that.

I also need to agree with @thriftsiren - Canada is awesome!  Montreal and/or Quebec City.  you'll feel like you're in Europe without crossing the pond!

Hmm, I'd thought of Vancouver but not Montreal - that's a good idea too! I'll have to have him look at some pictures! :)

    Thanks for all the advice!

I am trying to do the same thing for my honeymoon.

Does anyone have specific suggestions on good places to go in Maine/Vermont/Etc?  We want to be close to a town so we can get some good food (lobster) and be able to hike since we hear that is pretty.  Maybe a boat trip?

Specific cities and/or even great resorts etc would be helpful!

We're going to Charleston, SC and we're really excited about it! We decided to forgo an international honeymoon, and my FI is also not a beach bunny (though I am!). Charleston is great if you like sightseeing and history because there are old plantations that you can tour with acres of gardens, as well as a lot of other historical sites. As has already been mentioned, the dining is supposed to be among the best in the nation, and if you want your beach day, you can drive a little ways to one of the islands and leave FI at the bar while you tan!

As a Charleston resident... I say come to Charleston! So much to do... for a lot of our guests, its kind of a DW (even though our families are from there)!

PM me if you decide on charleston and want to know where to go!

Places we're considering: NYC, San Fran, Vegas, DC... among the thousands of others, haha

I guess it depends if you want a lot of things to do or if you want to relax.  If you want to be occupied and have amazing restaurants I would recommend a big city like NYC, Chicago, Boston or San Fran.  If you want to relax I think Northern California and the wine country sounds great.  Otherwise how about Arizona?  You could stay in Scottsdale at a swanky resort, then hit up Sedona and possibly the Grand Canyon.  Sedona is pretty beautiful!

Vegas would be really cool too.  So much to do there and so many amazing restaurants.  Plus lots of cheesy theater shows to keep you entertained if gambling isn't your thing,  My only problem with a honeymoon in Vegas is that there are a lot of people there and they might annoy me on a honeymoon.  I would want to be more secluded, but that's just me.

oh and what about Alaska?  I saw some photos of a friend who went there for her honeymoon.  It looked like a fun time even though the weather was cold!

GO TO THE GREENBRIAR. Seriously, it's way awesome and you feel like a star. Their website is sort of... out of date, but the place is amazing. Been going since I was little. It's where the DC bunker used to be.

    Great spa too. :p

@caszos - I have two favorite places in Maine I would recommend. One is Bar Harbour/ Acadia Nat'l Park - you can walk or bike the hundreds of miles of trails that are off limits to motorized vehichles, take whale-watching tours, kayak tours, hang out at beautiful Sand Beach, and eat awesome lobster and other great food.

My other favorite beach town in Maine is Ogunquit. So charming and the beach is phenomenal. Also great restaurants.

My FI is from Maine and I spent two entire summers there and we go back regularly. PM me if you'd like more info/ ideas.

I second Savannah! So beautiful and romantic. What about the Grand Canyon? Or Montana/ Wyoming? There's a place called Triple Creek Ranch in Darby, Montanta, that is absolutely FANTASTIC! You get your own little cabin with a golf cart and it's just awesome. Also, Santa Fe, NM is fun- Anasanzi (spelling?!) Inn is a fantastic place! O the Cordillara (again, SP?) in Colorado is fantastic- great breakfast!
