So, I'm sorry that I don't have any advice for you, but thought you might find it funny that I thought you were referring to wedding bands as in your rings. I was going to reply that I don't know of any cheesy wedding bands, but then I got it. DUH!!!
I'm getting married in Rochester, NY and am having a band. They're called About Face. I'm not sure if they travel down to Binghamton, but they're worth a look. Joe is super nice and they don't seem to play cheesy stuff. They play a good mix of all types of music--a little some thing for everyone. They got really great reviews from past brides/parents when I called around. One Dad didn't want to stop talking about how amazing they were!
Hi! We are using Hank Lane music. They are based in NYC but travel all over. They have a variety of bands - and they are not cheesy! All the band members sing, so you really get some variety. We heard samples of our particular band singing everything from Van Morrison to Billy Joel to Journey to Rihanna, and they are awesome!
haha I thought you meant wedding bands too lol ![]()
Yay for upstate Brides! (I am Skaneateles) My brother had an incredible band out of Buffalo at his wedding - they were called Motif (I know, sounds cheesy, but they were AWESOME.) I tired to book them for mine but they were already taken. Bummer. HEre is their site http://motif_band.tripod.com/
Not sure as far as travel costs go but its worht the look. good luck!
There's a band based out of the Hudson Valley called Bill's Toupee (http://www.billstoupee.com/) that are pretty great. They played one of the weddings i worked last year and they had everyone on the dance floor, and it was an early afternoon wedding! Not sure how far they travel though.

We are getting married in Binghamton, NY next September and the next big vendor we really want to nail down is a live band. My biggest concern is the "cheesyness" factor. Looking for a little less "wedding singer" vibe. We want NO group dances (YMCA, Chicken Dance, Cha Cha Slide, Electic Slide... etc) and our music taste is a little more Van Morrison, Bruce, Petty, Stones with splashes of other good music mixed in.
Any suggestions for a band in Upstate NY or bands willing to travel to Binghamton that don't charge a huge travel fee? Help Bees!
