Ap2010:  I always find that people will make things happen that are important to them… and won’t put that much effort in things that are not that important to them.I’d definitly say find the time & money to go, and i am somewhat confused that you have to ask on here? how are we to tell you how important your friend is to you?

Ap2010:  I guess that’s something none of us can tell you either. they probably won’t be thrilled if you ask, but I’d give it a try, right?

would you rather put your job in jeopardy? or would you rather see your friend?

have you looked up prices to fly to VA? have you looked up hotels?

if you want to see him you should go and make it work.  if it doesn’t matter than much, then maybe one day you will visit him in costa rica.  sounds like the vacation i would rather save for.

You said: “I took five partial days off and two to three full weekends off for my grandpas 80th birthday and my grandmas 80th birthday”

Let’s look at it this way. You’ve been at your job for about 2 months, so let’s call it 8 weeks. Assuming that you work between 3 and 5 days a week, you’ve worked anywhere from 24-40 days. You’ve taken off a total of 9 days (combining the 2-3 full weekends, assuming they are 2 day weekends and not 3 day weekends and calling the 5 “partial days” 2.5 full days), meaning that you’ve taken off between 23% and 37% of the time you’ve been employed.

If I were your manager, I would absolutely give you the time off to go visit your friend and then I would tell you that you can have all of the time off that you need because you would no longer have a job. You are not a reliable employee. I think you need to get your head on straight and learn how to be a decent worker before you go jet-setting across the country at the drop of a hat.

It sounds like you aren’t working a M-F job.  Can you arrange 3 days in a row off without actually reducing your hours?
