My fiance’s best friend is marrying us, and I have NO idea what he’s saying yet.  The fiance and I were talking about this last night, and we figured, just let his charisma work it a bit, then stick to the classic have him do a little speech about marriage….and then the classic do you take this  man…etc etc..kiss the end.

BUT if my fiance was a bit more literary and into books I LOVE LOVE LOVE the story of the   http://www.osorhan.com/bigo/

the missing piece by Shel Silverstein.  You could take an excerpt or read the whole thing.

One thing we are doing is having them groom escort both moms in to symbolize the union of both families. my dad is marrying us. I am planning on walking down the aisle alone. some brides do this and then have their groom meet them half way and walk them up the aisle the rest of the way.  You could have friends and family do readings from scripture, poetry, childrens books, you name it. You could also have a unity cermeony besides the candle – a rose ceremony, sand, etc. Good luck!

We’re getting married by a friend as well. Here: http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/what-do-you-think-of-our-ceremony is the text of our ceremony, although we’ve done some tweaking since then. Also check out offbeat bride, which has tons of neat readings, ideas, etc. Also just reading through some of the descriptions of real weddings can give you some ideas. And google “wedding readings” or “secular wedding readings” or some such. Good luck!

i wasn’t sure what to do because i hated the idea of a unity candle and he hated the idea of sand, but @togetherthroughlife, you gave the awesome idea of a rose ceremony!! i had never even heard of it and it would be perfect since my uncle grows and breeds his own roses!!! thank you!!

@kendrap:  i think that the hand ceremony is a nice  nontraditional idea too!
