I’m 24 and do breast exams occasionally, and I have a concern/question.
In my right breast, there is a “mass” that appears to take up half the base of my breast, at the side and bottom. I can push it back and forth. It doesn’t hurt at the moment, but I’ve had it for a long time and I’ve noticed it has in the past. I initially thought it was normal, like muscle or something, as I could have sworn I had the same thing in my left breast, but now it’s not there – or at least not so big that I can feel it. I’m freaking out!
Is this normal breast anatomy or is this actually not supposed to be there?
I should mention that I’m 3 months pregnant 🙂 — although I’ve noticed the mass as long as I can remember.

I’d discuss it with your OB/GYN. There are all kinds of little things that are odd about breasts, especially in pregnancy, but pregnancy is also a common time for women to develop cancerous masses — I have several young breast cancer patients (I’m a cancer research nurse) who learned about their cancer either during pregnancy or during breastfeeding. It’s best to just bring it up with your doctor rather than continuing to fret about it.

OP, see your OB/GYN, they can do a quick and painless ultrasound for peace of mind. You could just have dense breast tissue, or if it’s a distinct moveable mass it could be benign fibroadenoma.
Take a deep breath. Most masses are not cancer- especially considering the size you mentioned. Also if you have dense breasts, it’s a good idea for your doctor to know that early on, as breasts will evolve throughout pregnancy.
Keep us posted! xo

@moonbride: Take a nice, deep breath, assume that your are going to be fine–then call your OBGYN and make an appointment to get it checked out.

Of course, you should get it checked out, but I would say that’s tooootally normal. My breasts both feel like that. I have also had a benign breast tumor, and it felt definitely quite different, and it just suddenly appeared one day–not something I’d had for a long time/forever.

IA with disgussing it with a dr. It might be completely normal. I had a pretty big mass on my left breast that got bigger and hurt more right before my period. I had a breast exam done with a mammogram and had a biopsy done and it was normal, I just have “lumpy” boobs.
