I'm trying to figure out if I got ripped off or not. Hemline, cups, shortening the straps, and bustle cost me $340. Does this sound right? And mind you, this is WITH a $125 discount! Can anyone recommend an alterations place? I'm considering going back to the alterations store and (shamefully) swiping back my dress.
I think most places are overpriced. My place quoted me $200 to take in the side seams and add a single bustle. Luckily one of my very good friends is a seamstress and she has offered to do the alterations for me. If you trust them with your dress and you feel comfortable, then I wouldn't worry about the price.
i have a great lady.... she knocks off mon ami dresses... and is only charging me $15 an hour to redo the torso of my lace and heavily beaded dress!!! such a steal... her name is Thanh and i've even seen Knottie bios crediting her for making their dresses from scratch. keep in mind she's knocking off $10k vera wangs and other such designers! she can recreate dresses from just a tear out for the bridal mags.
she's in garden grove and is well worth it plus her turn around time is super fast, took my dress to her last night, she's going to have it done within 10 days... she clearly has a gift for these things! she's doing my bustle, cups, and extra netting under my dress free of charge - the only thing she's charging for is the reworking of my dress' torso!
private message me if you'd like her contact info...
