Folly Beach, Kiawah Island and other Charleston area places are good because there are lots of things to do. Tybee Island near Savannah are also good ideas. Reasonable prices, lots to do, VERY low key. There may be a state park in Georgia near there where you can camp. Since it is still early in the year for a beach vacation, I would think southern SC/GA/FL instead of NC.
Charleston is perfect. Not only do you have the beach, you have so many historical things to see, as well as awesome restaurants, shopping, and the amazing aquarium there. Definitely choose Charleston if you want something beachy!
I third Charleston! We went there one weekend in October 2009 and it was awesome!! IT is such a romantic city, very walkable, very warm and beautiful! Folly Beach is very close by - you could stay there or downtown or by the airport and have easy access by taxi to everything!!
This is about an hour from Charleston and looks really nice! Charleston is great and my husband and I travel there all the time. The South Carolina Aquarium is there and there are also tons of great restaurants that are pretty cheap. Hominy Grill and Jestine's Kitchen are two of our favorites for lunch. If you are looking for a nice place at night Poogan's Porch and Magnolia's are amazing. Charleston is really the perfect romantic getaway!
Edisto Beach State Park http://www.southcarolinaparks.com/park-finder/state-park/1298.aspx
Try Myrtle Beach, SC. There's tons to do, an aquarium, and they have a state park with camping, and there's also a couple other campsites nearby that are unaffiliated w/ the state park, but I think they're more expensive. State parks are usually pretty cheap. It is spring break central though, so be forewarned, even though you said you don't mind. The whole city will probably be overrun with 'teeny boppers' and college kids. (God, I sound old)
ETA: There are also lots of hotel options, as well, and several that cater only to couples and families, and those tend to be on the cheaper side. PM me if you'd like the names of them.
In NC, Wrightsville Beach is nice. You're also really close to Wilmington. There's this amazing restaurant called Elijah's there. I drool just thinking about it.

Hello Bees!
My husband and I (well me really) are planning a spring break vacation in April. It is my turn to pick a location and I pick the beach!
Do you girls know any good areas to stay? I was thinking around Charleston SC, but just because I looked at a map and picked. It doesn't matter to me as long as a beach is nearby! I'd love to take some tours and visit aquariums and things like that, and he likes sports. What should we go see?
I know that is college spring break time, but we don't mind, it can't be changed.
We would like to be as low key as possible. I was looking at the notsohostel to stay but I am still deciding where to go. We are in Indiana, so gas is going to be a big part of our spending. We could camp, but I would like a nice campground/park if we do.
If you have any suggestions, please tell me!
Thanks!
