We are officially 1 year away & have no idea where to look.

We are starting look this weekend with the Birby House in Leesburg & are leaning towards rustic (barn, manor, farms, private residence, B&B) or natural (fields, stream, hill side, vinyards) setting...BUT we won't rule out anything even if it doesn't fit those criteria.

Will be a ceremony + reception site is all we ask.

Can Washingtonians + out of towners please suggest locations please.

Thanks - NO IDEAS disregarded for sure!  Out of the box is what we are thinking!

If you have a location please throw it out here.  I will be forever indebted to you!

    TIA  Tongue out

Hi, I'd recommend searching through some old posts, people have talked about some good locations on the boards.

For a rustic feel my favorite was Seneca Lodge through the Montgomery County Parks.  It looked lovely and was affordable.  Lots of outside space for a ceremony and the actual lodge rental included tables and chairs.  The managers seemed to be super sweet as well.

I ended up choosing Glen Echo Park in MD.  Our wedding will be "a la carnival" with games and candy and rides on the carousel.

I also remember a pretty looking glass atrium at this site: http://www.shadetreesandevergreens.com/  I never checked them out but it might be worth it.  And I ran across a vineyard in my search but I can't remember the name anymore.

    Good luck!

Fairfax County parks has some rustic looking properties. You might also check out the Hendry House in Arlington. It's a craftsman style house on a park.

Check out Meadowlark Botanical Gardens (I believe in Falls Church) and Bluemont Vineyard (which I think is about 20 mins or so from Leesburg). Bluemont is on a hill with wonderful views and they have a couple of indoor reception options (the tasting room for smaller weddings and a barn for larger weddings). FI and I didn't *love* the barn, but I think it has potential, especially if it is all decorated. Plus, the folks there were all super nice.

I'm having my ceremony and reception at 2941 Restaurant in Falls Church, VA. It's for <80 people unless you rent out the entire restaurant. But it's on a very pretty lake and has koi ponds and waterfalls. Plus it always voted one of the top ten restaurants in DC.

You can also try Trummers's on Main in Clifton, VA. Great food and very airy interior to the Winter Atrium. Although not great for the ceremony *and* reception. ALthough the guy there, Ryan, mentioned there was a new winery in the area. So try and find the new winery near there.

just thought of one more...check out the area around Sugarloaf Mountain. There's a vineyard or two close by as well as the Strong Mansion and the Comus Inn.

Ooooh, I have heard such good things about 2941.

Another winery idea is Tarara, which is near Leesburg. They have a gorgeous pond on the property and you can tent the lawn overlooking it. I think they actually have a few different site options there, but all require (I think) tenting.

I grew up in Western Loudoun, and there are a lot of vineyards out there that could have potential.  I am getting married at Bluemont Vineyard.  The reception venue is a converted stable, so not necessarily a "barn" by common standards.  The vineyard is owned affiliated with Great Country Farms right across the street, and they do have a standard barn.

We also looked at Rust Manor house in Leesburg, which is on property owned by the Audobon Society (I believe).  It's got beautiful gardens, and you can either use the indoor house or they have a tented area.

I'd check out the website www.visitloudoun.org, they have a list of all of the vineyards, as well as a section that gives suggestions on wedding venues (B&Bs, Historical sites, parks).

    Thanks jennred828 for the suggestions.

We visited the Birkby & it was exactly what we wanted.

However, the price (7k+) & the 8 hour window (must be out by 9pm)- of which 3 hrs are strictly for setup & take down - seems limiting.

We also visited the River Creek CC, Amazing view of the potomac from the balcony.

Plenty of room but @ 130/pp (adult beverage included - which is good) it's more than what I want to pay for.

Arghggghhh if money wan't an issue!  haha!

You must try The Goodstone Inn!! They are out in Middleburg, VA -- yes it's a little bit of a stretch but its beautiful! They are a B&B so they have rooms on property, and have alot of room to for your ceremony.

How about Woodend Sanctuary in Chevy Chase Md?

You might also want to go to TheKnot and look up rustic weddings...there are alot of weddings in the area that you might like.

I'm going to second Bluemont Vineyard/Great Country Farms in Bluemont.

The Berry Barn (it's on the side with Great Country Farms) is very rustic, and has awesome potential. We went back and forth over the Vineyard side versus the Barn and finally decided on the barn because we could use our own caterer (you're locked into theirs for The Stable) and you can supply your own alcohol.  And since we werent having a big wedding the extra cost of the Stable just seemed unnecessary.

I've got a great vision though of what I'm going to do...I'm sure plenty of people have looked at it and said "Meh. It looks a little too shabby" lol

Cacapon State Park in Berkeley Springs, WV. It's 45 minutes from Winchester. They have a lodge where receptions are held that's more modern, but they also have lots of outdoor ceremony cites.  There are also outside provillions that can be used for nice weather weddings. They also have a rustic bath House built by the CCC (Civil Conservation Corps in the 1930's) that overlooks a lake.  I think the Bathhouse only holds 80.  They are lodge rooms to rent and vacation cabins on site that your guests can rent. There is also a golf course.  I had my reception there in the Lodge. Ceremony was in town at the Catholic church. My parents live there and I grew up there from age 10 thru college.  It's very afforadable.  Food costs will most likely be under $30 per person. Site rentals are reasonable, the Lodge's large banquet room was $400 for the day in 2009.

Thank you thank you thank you for all these suggestions!  As a "future planner" ;) this helps immensely!  Adding a few more that are on my "list" but I haven't checked out yet, so I'm not vouching for these, just putting them out there:

Breaux Vineyard and Veramar vineyard have tons of info on their sites, good place to start pricing.

L'Auberge Provencale and Briar Patch Bed and Breakfast - outdoor weddings, good prices, and some guests can stay on site

http://www.wineryweddingguide.com/ has wineries that host weddings broken down by region.

Best of luck everyone else looking for that perfect outdoor wedding in these parts!

I know this information will not be very helpful to the original poster, but in case any other bride can find it of use...

Our venue is Stevenson Ridge in Spotyslvania (right by Fredericksburg if you're not familiar).  They just built their lodge venue this past year and I totally fell in love with it - I had my heart set on an outdoor ceremony until I saw this venue.   I would say it's rustic, though not as much as a barn or outdoor venue would be.  The building has the structure of an 18th century chapel built into it - it measures out to be a quarter of the entire building and it is gorgeous!  Think exposed wood beams and old doors at the entrance!

You pay to rent the building which includes chiavari chairs, tables, and linens.  If you have the wedding on an off day they discount the rental fee.  You can pick your own caterer - we are using one she recommends and he's been great - and provide your own alcohol with an ABC one day banquet license, which is simple to obtain.

It is fairly budget friendly.  I know we don't have the cheapest of budgets, but I think we are doing well for the area considering I know a bride who spent $30,000 for under 100 people!  We are planning on around 125 people on a Friday evening and are looking to spend right at $15,000, including everything except the honeymoon.

These photos will give you a good idea of what the place is like:
