If the cake is included in your venue package then I think its great! If its an additional cost I would re-think it :)
FI and I are not cake people either and we're having a Pie Bar! The first thing my father said was, "whats a wedding without a cake..." haahaahaahaaa
When I told my mom and brother that we weren't having a wedding cake they both were literally shocked, even my brother who is not that traditional. It kind of made me feel bad - I didn't know people expect cake and enjoy it so much! If it's included then it's probably a good idea just for everyone else's sake. I just couldn't picture spending hundreds on something like that I didn't want. We are having a selection of latin desserts instead, but then our reception is at a tapas place.
if it's included i don't see why not... unless they would be able to substitute it for another dessert. i'm not really into wedding cake either, so we're having croquembouche.
Thanks!! I thought i was the only "anti-cake" bride out there!
@jackie-o - i know!! almost all my fam response was the same "whats a wedding without cake?" lol
both of your alternative ideas are fabulous!!

Yep, we are not cake people either! And since we were paying for most of the wedding, we didn't want to dish out the $$ for something we didn't care about.
So, we did cupcakes. Waaay cheaper, very cute & simple, and guests were happy since it hit their sweet tooth. The hubs & I had a bite of one each and were done :)
We are doing Cheesecake, since FI isn't a fan of regular cake!
I think since it's included you might as well have one. But if you want to have something more your style/taste on top of that, I like the pie idea, and I've also considered cheesecake and strawberry shortcake!
We HATE cake. Frosting especially!! So we opted for Cold Stone sheet Ice Cream Cakes. It was only $45 for a sheet that serves 50 people. A unique route cheap and everyone will love it!

My FI and I aren't big cake people at all - regular cake, cupcakes, etc.
We didn't care for having one but both of our moms suggests that we get one anyways since pretty much everyone else we know likes cake and many people look foward to having cake weddings.
I guess on the positive end, the venues we are looking at include a cake in their packages so its not like it would be an extra cost. We're probably going to get one anyways to satisfy our guests who will all be travelling into our destination wedding.
Any thoughts?
