This may be a little TMI, but I have no idea what’s wrong with me, and wondering if anyone else has dealt with this.
<br />SO and I had sex on Tuesday night. Afterwards, I had trouble peeing. It didn’t hurt or anything, but I always try to pee after sex and it just wasn’t happening. I felt a little crampy afterwards in my lower abdomen near my pubic area. Not like period cramps, a different type of cramp. Wednesday morning, I woke up feeling crampy again. All day yesterday, I felt a strong need to pee, but not a lot would come out when I would pee. I felt like I had to pee AGAIN immediately after peeing, but nothing would come out. Also, my lower abdomen aches when I urinate. My first thought – UTI! I made an appointment with my doctor, and went last night. He did a urinalysis, and there was no sign of infection.
He wrote me an Rx for antibiotics, and sent me on my way. He said that even though there is no infection now, it’s possible that it’s the start of one and he wants to treat it as if I have one currently. My body has a bad reaction to antibiotics, so I’m hesitant to begin taking them when I don’t even have an infection. I was on strong antibiotics 2 weeks ago to treat for possible BV (turns out I didn’t have that either), and I ended up with an extreme case of oral thrush which took me over a week to get rid of. I don’t want a yeast infection or thrush again, so I’m really hesitant. I almost always end up with a secondary infection as a result of taking antiobiotics, which are difficult to get rid of.
I’ve taken AZO to try to get rid of the symptoms. I don’t really feel that “urge” to go to the bathroom, but my lower abdomen still aches when I go to the bathroom. I’m wondering if anyone has ever experienced this before. I also bought urine test strips so I can monitor my urine to see if it turns into a UTI, in which case I will fill my antiobiotic prescription and take the meds.
I also want to add that I’m not due for my period for another 3 weeks. I have endometriosis, but these cramps don’t feel like endo pain.
Anyone have any insight as to what these cramps could be? I’ve had UTIs before, it just doesn’t feel the same.

Not all UTIs will feel the same. If you’re worried about the antibiotics, drink LOTS of water and cranberry juice (100% juice) for the next few days. Do NOT start taking the antibiotics and stop early unless advised from your doctor.
I’ve had many, many UTIs. Whenever I feel one coming on, I avoid all coffee, alcohol, sugary drinks, etc.
If things don’t improve within about 5 days, go back to your doctor.
Best of luck!

SeaOfLove: Thank you for your response! I’m going to keep an eye on it, and if the symptoms don’t improve, I’ll go back to the doctor. I’m just so hesitant to take antibiotics when I don’t even have an infection!

msnap2be: Since I was getting such frequents UTIs, I just started flushing them out… and my doctor said it was okay. My biggest problem was that the antibiotics wouldn’t work because I would get the UTIs close together (within a month or two of each other).
The antibiotics may not be super effective if you do have the UTI since you took some antiobiotics recently, but since the dose won’t be as strong, you may not have a problem. I suggest using both antibiotics and trying to flush it out at the same time… but I’m not a doctor!

Note: every time you take antibiotics, take probiotics as well. That will substantially lessen the possibility of yeast infections and intestinal woes.
Taking two antibiotics together is a wonderful way to get c-dif.
Drink water with lemon if you can’t find cranberry juice without added sugar. If things do not improve within 48 hrs go back to the doctor.

+1 for cranberry juice. Make sure you get one with no sugar added. It’s gross but it helps. And drink the whole container too even if you’re not feeling the pain anymore.
Mill get irritation that feels like a UTI every once in a while. As soon as I feel it I start taking AZO and drinking cranberry juice. Most of the time it will go away completely. if it persists or comes back a week later I go to the doctor because UTIs turn into a Kidney infection. And you do not want one of those!

Also, you aren’t using AZO with cranberry added to it? Because that has never worked for me. Just plain old AZO.

msnap2be: Did you happen to use lubrication during sex? I will finish my post in a minute-

Please take your antibiotics! If it is a UTI (which it certainly sounds like you might) and you don’t take your antibiotics, it could turn into a kidney infection and land you in the hospital. Antibiotics are the only guaranteed way to get rid of a UTI.

doberman: Oh, I do! I always load up on probiotics while taking antibiotics, and also take them every day. Doesn’t seem to help too much.
MrsWoods47: Just regular AZO!
MrsEME: Nope, no added lubrication.
Mrs. Honeybee: Thank you! I am going to see how I am within the next day or two. If it doesn’t improve, I’ll start the antibiotics.
Thank you all for your responses 🙂

If it is pure cranberry juice do it. If it is cranberry juice cocktail it has been shown that because of the amount of sugar (its a ton) and the amount the actual juice is diluted it really isn’t that effective in treating UTIs. Cranberry pills on the other hand work wonders. Take them with a bunch of water.
If it doesn’t go away soon you need to go back to the doctors. I left a UTI untreated for a week and by the time I got to the doctor I had a severe bladder infection that had started to travel to my kidneys in which case I could’ve gone into septic shock….

msnap2be: It definitely sounds like a UTI. I actually had one recently with all of those symptoms, I was even peeing blood and the test still came back negative for infection. I took Cystex and the 3-day antibiotics the doc prescribed and drank a lot of cranberry juice and all the symptoms went away within one day. But if you do start the antibiotics, make sure to finish!

msnap2be: OK- well this happened to me after we used lube (we don’t normally, just decided to…for fun? I guess). I have no idea if the lube had anything to do with it or not.
It was a few days after my period and we had sex- and then I got all the exact symtoms you’re having. Went and got tested for UTI- where it came back negative, and they refused to give me antibiotics just in case.
I drank lots of water and cranberry juice (100% juice- watered down with water when I had trouble getting it down)– to flush my system. This seemed to do the trick.
But then I got my next period. And same thing- a few days after it was over, I got the same symptoms. Went back to the DR where they tested for STDs/BV/yeast/UTI- nothing.
Then I got pregnant- so my bladder is just crazy anyway.
My urine was tested again after my confirmed pregnancy, and nothing.
I’m starting to think that whatever my problem is- it’s hormonal. I’m waiting to address it again until after I have the baby….since again, I just have to pee all the time anyway and I know my urine is clean.

Thank you all for your responses! Althought I’m pretty apprehensive about taking yet another round of antibiotics, it seems to be the safest route. I’ll also pick up some pure/natural cran juice! Thank you all!

Mrs. Honeybee: This. I had it happen the first time I had a UTI. Not fun.
