You should be able to get results once you’ve missed your period. So if you’re 5 days late already, I’d say test with FMU tomorrow and if it’s negative, wait a week and try again.

@jessiebean:  Agreed with the PP. If you are using a first response and with FMU, AND you’re already late, and it’s STILL negative, it is very unlikely that you are pregnant. Especially because you know that you successfully excrete HCG through your urine.* Keep testing every few weeks or so.

*those that “don’t find out their pregnant until they get a blood test” often don’t because they don’t excrete HCG in their urine well I’ve heard, I dk if that’s true???

Are you sure of your ovulation date? My cycle was a regular 27/28 days for years and years until the past couple months. For whatever reason, I’ve ovulated over a week late last month and this month.

If you ovulated late, your missed period wouldn’t actually be a missed period yet. If I had a 28 day cycle this month, I would have been “late” yesterday. But, since I’ve been charting, I know that I’m only 7dpo and I wouldn’t be able to get a positive test for another 4-5 days at least. Even though I’d normally be late, I’m still a week away from my period this month.

ETA: I’ve only just started to really try charting for TTC purposes this month, so if you’ve been temping/charting etc for a while and are sure of your ovulation date you can ignore my post lol

I would test. For me (oddly) the pregnancy test was very dark (first response) after simply holding it for the afternoon 3 days before my missed period I think(?). I know the torture! You very well could be 🙂 Sounds like you have a good plan in place for testing, though.

@ChuckNorris:  More often than not, it’s because they ovulated later and weren’t actually that far along. Like all of the people who didn’t get positives until 20 days, but had been testing, the vast majority weren’t charting so they’re usually like a week off. A very small percent don’t metabolize HcG in urine or something like that. But it’s really rare.

Keep testing every few days until you get your period or a positive test. If it’s been 60 days, go to the doctor and they can induce your period if you aren’t pregnant. If your period is late and you aren’t pregnant, it’s because you didn’t ovulate when you thought you did. Sometimes even if you’re really regular, your body just ovulates later for whatever reason.

@glittermoon:  I mean those that don’t ever get positive urine tests like even at 8-12 weeks gestation, not just those that are negative for a few weeks =)

@ChuckNorris:  Haha then yes, they don’t metabolize it in urine. I was scared I would be one of them!

@ChuckNorris:  Most people do. I used to be scared I’d be on “I didn’t know I was pregnant” or something haha. I look forward to your response! 🙂
