Today is the deadline to get 10 rooms reserved in my hotel block or the price goes up $40. Problem is, it’s noon and there are only five rooms booked. I feel bad that guests will have to spend more money, when they could actually go online and spend only $2 more than the block rate at a hotel down the road. Should I let them know to reserve rooms at the other hotel or just let them be “surprised” if I don’t get the other 5 rooms reserved? They know that a certain number of rooms need to be reserved in order to get the rate, but they don’t know it’s going to be $40 more and I feel bad. I really thought we’d get 10 rooms booked.

I would deff let everyone know. What i did was send out an email to all my friends who i thought would want to stay at the hotel for drinking reasons. I explained we want to get an idea of rooms needed for the night, if we have 10 rooms the rate will be x if not you guys are on ur own.

Let the guests know about the price increase and they can make their own decision.

I emailed and called our close friends who hadn’t reserved to remind them that the block was ending. More people booked on the last day than during the preceding 6 months! The best man (of course) tried to book the week after the closing date. My groom called the hotel contact and had the block “reopened” for him.
