Warning: rant ahead!
My fiance swears he wants to keep it simple. In keeping with our small budget and ‘keep it simple’ ethos, we were planning to have a small ceremony in a park followed by a pig roast at my parents house nearby, then a California road trip honeymoon. Yet somehow, he has managed to:
– put an extra dozen cousins on the guest list (who all have spouses)
– now wants to have a ‘themed’ reception (what happened to the backyard BBQ?)
– wants to go on a tropical surfing honeymoon (our original plan was to drive up the California coast, and stay in state parks)
To make matters worse, he doesn’t actually do the research to make any of this happen…He hasn’t even taken care of the few things I’ve asked him to take care of!
A family friend who lives in the city we’re getting married in is helping with planning, and I’ve emailed her (and cc’d FI) asking about several of these sites to accomodate extra family and/or keeping in with the ‘theme’, knowing damn well she is going to come back and say that these are all way out of our budget. Maybe then he will re-commit to keeping it simple! But given that we’re getting married in June, I’m at a point where I’m about ready to say “put up or shut up”, i.e. if you want to make all of these changes, then you need to figure out venue and budget stuff yourself – because I am through!
How have other bees dealt with this? (and here I mean without strangling your FI!)
