Hi everyone….. wanted to get some opinions on this matter.
I had recently put some items up for sale on the classified list that I was not going to be using for my wedding. I found someone to purchase them and they told me payment had been sent. I trusted this Bee and I shipped the items. The items have been delivered but I have still not received payment. I wrote this Bee an email explaining that I had not received payment yet and asked if she could check into it. (This was about 5 days after she said payment was mailed) I know it takes some time for the mail but I live in NJ and she lives in NY. (my parents live in FL and when they send me letters and such it only takes 2 days…. 3 tops) She wrote me back and told me she was sorry but she thought her mother had mailed it and that she would write her mom an email with my address and call her to tell her to send it. It has now been 1 week from the time she received the item and tomorrow will be almost 2 weeks from the original " I will mail payment". I have written her another email to check with her on payment and have not heard back.
Thinking now, I should have waited until payment was in hand before I mailed them, but I trusted that payment was sent. The payment is not too much but still the principle of the matter………..
What do you think?

Oh man this totally sucks! Hopefully there was a really good excuse to this, but sometimes there isn’t and you just never know. I hope you get your money. I’m big on the principle of the matter, too. Do right to others or karma will come get ya.
Can we get paypal for the classifieds? If so, that might be a safe, secure way to use the classifieds forum. Maybe Mr. and Mrs. Bee can set that up. Paypal is my preferred way to buy things.
But if i ever DO mail a check, I mail it ASAP and I require a signature to confirm receipt. It sounds extreem, but I’ve gotten bitten by "oh i never received your check" so i mail another one….and two get cashed and I’m out double my money.

Did she mention she was buying the items or that somebody else was giving her money or that somebody else was directly purchasing the items via her?

aww i’m sorry to hear!
paypal is definitely the best way to protect yourself when purchasing things online.
is she a regular contributer to the hive?

She said she was purchasing them for her wedding. She never mentioned anything about her mother paying for them until I asked her about payment. Her words before were…. sending payment tomorrow.

The girl doesn’t really post too much to the boards…… she does respond to lots of the board posts.
I guess she is a little like me when it comes to the hive….. get on when you can, check with others on ideas etc

Always use PayPal to secure transactions and NEVER send an item without first having received the payment. You don’t need a paypal button to use PayPal, you simply send her e-mail address and invoice from your PayPal account. Then when she pays, ship the item. I’ve TOTALLY been burned by this kind of thing!

Eek, that totally stinks that that happened! I hope you are able to get ahold of her and that you’re not getting scammed.
In the worst scenario if the items are worth enough to you, you could take her to small claims court. Knowing her name and address are probably enough to do this, although I am not sure if the fact that you live in another state will change things. Maybe even the mention of court would be enough to get the wheels turning.
Also, if you both have paypal accounts (which all you need for is a bank account) then you can paypal each other directly rather than rely on the mail system and mothers writing checks (and if it comes, make sure that check cashes too before you consider the matter resolved). Sorry this is happening to you :(.

If you have her email, you can send her an invoice on PayPal (if she has an account). Once that is sent, you can set the invoice status as "unresolved." This would most likely hold her up from purchasing online for a while, at least through PayPal.
Good luck, I’m sorry to hear that someone in the hive would do that!

Be careful with paypal too..
my little bro sold his NEW phone on ebay
the buyer didn’t like it and filed a complaint, so paypal forced him to refund the money
then they shipped him an empty box, but because they had proof they shipped to him it didn’t matter that the box was empty, so they basically stole his phone.
Paypal’s response? Tough luck.
So just be careful online!

Amen to being careful with PayPal, too! Someone once hacked into my account, and because they were on PayPal, they were able to steal money directly from my bank account. It took forever to clear that up, and PayPal was soooooooo unhelpful. I’m never going back.
