I completely understand. I am from the Altoona area. Its so irritating to find only Pittsburgh or Harrisburg vendors. Most charge outrageous prices. Right now I'm looking for a venue and I want to see pictures/reviews from actual weddings and I'm having no such luck. ugh.
Have you ladeis looked on weddingwire.com? I found lots of reviews on some businesses in smaller cities/towns on there.
@kms31690: have you found a photographer yet?? ours is from Altoona, and I could not be happier with our decision. We just got our engagement pictures back and people have been showering us with praise for our choice
Let me know if you'd like more info!
@JillBill: I grew up in Weirton WV, (20 minutes from Robinson) and I can't stand that there are no sites for those smaller vendors down there. Of course, people who live in smaller towns are not writing reviews I don't think.
@Miss Tattoo: my FILs live a stone's throw from Robinson, so I am very familiar with the road signs to Weirton :)
It's just so frustrating when you already have a handle on the 3-5 options IN your town even before you dive into internet searching, and then you can't come up with anything additional from your town or nearby towns, aside from the big, bad city. I keep telling everyone I know that planning a wedding in a small town is great, since the options are limited, decreasing decision-making time, but if none of those options work for you... you're pretty much SOL.
My promise to myself (as of now, 9 months away from the wedding date) is that I plan to write multiple reviews of the vendors on multiple sites to help out future brides. We'll see if I'm that altruistic whenever thank-you notes, wedding decompressing, and general relaxation with the new husband become competing uses of my time
I don't live in Pittsburgh either, and I think that I'd check out the local stuff... it probably is less expensive, and every bit as nice as something dahntahn!
@JillBill: Thats great! What photographer are you using? I would love some info.
@kms31690: We are using a photographer named Christina Garber. You can see her work/pricing at ChristinaGarber.com. She is absolutely a joy to work with and we have been so happy with her work.

I'm in Morgantown, about an hour south of Pittsburgh, but at least a few of my vendors are going to be from Pittsburgh, because unfortunately Morgantown has a very small pool of vendors which are, oddly enough, often more expensive :(.
This thread is a little old, but i wanted to commiserate. I live in Pittsburgh, but am having my wedding near my hometown. Jefferson/Clearfield county area. And everytime i put my zip code in to search for venues I get things that are a ridiculous distance away....like 5 hours. Umm, no. Sometimes I even get Philly results. It is super frustrating.

Anyone not exactly from Pittsburgh? I'm originally from Johnstown (living in Pittsburgh now, getting married in Johnstown), and it's sort of frustrating to only find vendor recommendations and reviews for people IN pittsburgh who charge much more than smaller cities' vendor prices AND charge you for travel too!
Just curious if anyone else is in a similar situation!
