So FI and are are paying for our wedding party's attire...I'm letting BMs pick out the dress style they want as long as they're all roughly the same shade of purple. For the GMs, we're going to purchase shirts and ties but since they all own dark suits, we're just going to have them wear those with matching shirts and ties.

Did anyone else do this? Will it look weird in the pics because of the differing shades? Any pics out there of this? Thanks!

How many GMs do you have?  Are you sure they have similar dark suit?  Some may have gray and some may have black while others might have strips in their suit.  If you go the route of having them wear their suit, is possible to see what their suit looks like before the wedding?

For me,  I prefer to have my GMs match because it'll look pretty in pictures and I don't have to stress about their suits being too short, too long, or completely different in terms of color, style, etc.

If that is the look you are going for, I am sure it will look great. Since the BM's won't completely match, it should balance out, but I would make sure that they are all in the same color family, just like your BM's dresses. You probably don't want one to stand out more than another one.

We are having the guys wear black dress slacks, black dress shirts, and colorful ties that we are providing that match the girls' dresses.  If the guys already have black dress slacks and shirts, we are looking at them for approval, otherwise we are just taking them to Target or someplace to get them.  This way, they spend WAY less money on something they can actually keep and will definitely wear again.  Still haven't decided if we are going to tell them shiny black shoes, or not shiny.  But either way, the guys will match, and be way more comfortable that night wearing their own clothing.  That's always an option.  If the guys don't match very well, Target has started carrying more suit style items.  Much cheaper than going somewhere else.

Thanks for your responses! We have 4 groomsmen. They all have black suits but you know how it is with black suits...shades are usually slightly different. They are aware that they need to be black without stripes. I won't be able to see them all together until a few days before the wedding since theyre scattered throughout the country...unless I can convince them to all bring their suits to the bachelor party in June and snap a photo for me. hahaha
