Why arent you having a wedding? You could have a reception or a party after getting married to celebrate your marriage with your family, and have the song as your first dance.
@MissLacy: We decided on no wedding because we came up with so many other things we could do with all that money.. I guess in the midst of it all, when I foudn out my parents weren't actually paying for it, and we had to pay for it ourselves, we decided that a beautiful life and a beautiful marriage was much more important (to us) than a beautiful wedding. $25k could be a downpayment on a house.. or a car... a really extravagant honeymoon, etc...
We are actually thinking about having a tiny tiny beach ceremony in Hawaii [some would call that an elopement] with JUST our parents and siblings, and then having liek a casual luau styled BBQ at one of our parents houses to celebrate our marriage with our closest friends and family.. I guess we could dance there.. even though we'd already be married by then :]
You dont have to spend 25k on a wedding. There are many alternatives.
There are many restaurants that have small private rooms where you can invite 10 people and spend 1,000 dollars on food or WAY less. And get a 300 dollar dress or less and then you can have your very own wedding dance song :P
A wedding is what you make it to be, it doesnt have to be what everyone else thinks it should be.
You only get married once. :) So make good memories of it.
I completely agree, we spent more on our honeymoon than we did on our wedding, and we had a 5-hour venue location. One of the best moments on your wedding day, is dancing with you husband in your wedding dress as you both glow of happiness. I would look into restaurants or a day wedding as they're always less expensive, but if can have a full wedding day. My first dance is my #1 memory right now, i'm sure once I have kids it'll get bumped down, but its pretty amazing.
@MsHeatFan: I had that - a beach wedding in Hawaii with only parents+siblings and one friend each. My entire wedding, including our airfare + hotel + reception dinner, not including honeymoon, was about $6k. What's this $25k you speak of? lol
@MsHeatFan: Your eloping sounds lovely! What song did you fall in love with? You should dance to it at the bbq :-)
@strawbs: You just put my mind at ease! That sounds perfect!
@ImaStarr: That's what Im considering.. And the song is "Soldier" by Gavin DeGraw :]
@MsHeatFan: I can't edit my post anymore, but I meant to correct that the $6k+ included the honeymoon, rings, dress, DH's wedding shirt, my slippers, everything!
@strawbs: I figured thats what you meant.. Do you have pictures?? I'd love to see them, if you dont mind.. I'll guve you my personal email if you'd like
We are getting married on Thursday at a friends house. Very small (12 people including us) and I am still planning background music for the "downtime" If you want to play your song DO IT. After you finish saying your vows have everyone take a few moments to enjoy and share in your happiness.

So Bees.. There's this song I JUST fell in love with.. If I were having a wedding, I'd pick it as my wedding song.. but FI and I aren't having a wedding lol...
Makes me sad (the part about the wedding song.. not the part about not having a wedding lol) :[
Just wanted to get this thought out of my chest.. lol
