we did this. we mailed out the first batch of invites to people who lived further away who were on our A-list about 10 weeks before the wedding. We had online RSVP so it didnt take too long to received responses and then we mailed out a 2nd batch of invites around 7 weeks to the wedding and a final batch went out around 5 weeks. We also hand delivered some invites around 4 weeks. we were able to invite more people as others RSVPd no
The RSVP date should be 1-2 weeks before the date you have to provide firm #s to the caterers.
The invitations should go out 6-8 weeks before this date.
I'm sending my invitations about 12 weeks before the caterer needs firm #s. I know it's a bit early but we have some firm B list requests and the more time that we can take to see who is coming and who isn't, the better. But I know that's not the norm... (but I had no STD and a short engagement...so everyone is different I suppose)

hi everyone - we decided not to send Save the Dates, but want to send our wedding invites out with enough time to invite the "B" list in a non-obvious last minute way. Has anyone done this before and/or have any advice on how far in advance we should send out the invites AND how far in advance our RSVP date should be?
