next October as in 2013? It is fairly common to plan a wedding in a year I think. As long as you have your budget down and some rough ideas by October 2012 you should be totally fine. I wouldn’t procrastinate as much as possible, but some people even plan wedding in 5, 6, 7, or 8 months… youll be fine.

You have plenty of time.  I think the average planning time for a wedding I typically see is 10-14 months. It can certainley be done in less, but if you give yourself at least 10-12 months you’ll be fine! Unless you have a venue in mind that fills up quick!

We started planning 18 months out, and now that we’re about a year out, we have everything booked, so…

It really just depends on where you’re having the wedding.  In most areas, a year is more than enough time, but if you’re having your wedding in a resort town or densely-populated city, many vendors may book 1-2 years in advance.

But I agree that you shouldn’t procrastinate, no matter how much time you think you have.  Look at some of the local boards…there are tons of desperate “I only have x days to the wedding, and no photographer/DJ/whatever!!!” posts.  Pace yourself…last-minute stress is no fun!

You have plenty of time! Why not get started now? We started planning at about 18 months and we are down to 4 months to go. Time flies! 🙂

We planned in about 8 months. The one thing you might want to think about would be venue, sometimes those get booked pretty far in advance. And if you have your heart set on something and a specific date that might be the only issue.
