I completely understand your disappointment. Is it possible that she just didn't want you to see her be emotional? Maybe she was still bothered by your disagreement and was focused on that?
I'm so sorry that she didn't go completely crazy over it! Maybe she couldn't visualize the whole picture or something? I'm sure you looked gorgeous in it though!
Post your dress here so we can see it! Maybe your mom was just having an off day?
The only pic i have of me in it is crappy! Its taken from my phone! So, i'll try to get someone to come over and help me get it on and take good pics so i can post them!
You should get someone to take a picture of you and we will all 'ohh and ahh' and make you feel great about it!
Did she help you pick out the dress? My mom would have been really disappointed if the first time she saw my dress was after I had already bought it. I think most moms who want to be involved in the planning would feel this way.
She did help pick it. But I never got to try it on first, we just ordered it on the internet. She is the first one to see it on me.
Ok, i'll try to get some pics of it in the next couple days!
Sounds like something my mom would say! Why don't you post a picture of you in your wedding dress - no face included - on here & let us all tell you how beautiful you look!!! :)
@Rosie Girl - oh, ok. So I guess it looks very different from how she pictured it. I'm sorry she wasn't more excited! I think she'll warm up to it though. My mom thought some of my favorite dresses weren't great when I showed her pictures of myself in them, and said so - it really upset me. A few weeks later, though, she was saying they were beautiful, and she ended up really liking the dress I chose.
PS Looking forward to seeing you in the dress!
I think sometimes our moms try to contain themselves & make that extra effort; when in turn it sounds to us like they arn't excited. I didn't get the reaction of "ohs and ahs" from my mom on my wedding day! which is SO unlike her! She later told me she was purposely not trying to look at me before the wedding b/c she didn't want to be all wet faced & balling her eyes out during the ceremony.
My mom has been like this too, and judging from the other responses i think it is just a Mom thing. I try not to get upset about it.
My mom kind of reacted like this to my engagement. When I confronted her about her tame/lackluster response, she said, "Well I told you I was happy for you and that you must be so happy...I'm not sure what else you wanted me to say."
She sounds like your mom in that she genuinely thinks your dress is pretty...but maybe isn't sure what else there is to it.
I am so sorry you did not get the response you wanted. I do not blame you for feeling that way, but I bet she cares more than she let on.
And like everyone else said, we'd be happy to fawn all over you!
I'm sorry! Post a pic and we will make you feel all better about it.
Yes, definitely post a pic! We will give you the feedback your mom should have. I'm sorry she was so blase about it, that must have really hurt. You will look gorgeous that day, don't despair :)
I was going to say "show us!" too, but now I feel like I'm copying everyone who's already said it :)
Please let us see though! Take another pic or two if you don't like the one(s) you already have ~ no harm in putting it back on, right? ;)
1) we will totally oo and ahh :)
2) also-- you'll get over it. I had a less than happy reaction to my engagement and i was crushed. but, i got over it mostly. i've moved on and it doesn't bother me anymore.
show us- we'll give you more than the reaction you're looking for. consider us your internet bms:)
Yes Yes please post a pic!!! I am sure she just didn't know how to react.
@ashleyjames - LOL at the "internet bms" thing... there should totally be something like that :)
@Rosie Girl - It could be any number of things that made her give the response that she did - the question is, would you feel better if you talked to her about it and THEN got the response you wanted?
I know this is rich coming from someone thats just waiting still, but you may run into this "not what I expected" response from other people as well, the closer you get to your wedding. The important thing is to decide whether the object makes YOU happy and isn't causing any kind of inconvenience to anyone else. Once you have these figured out you should right on ahead, with a wistful shrug at those who don't see the "wonderfulness" of something the way you do
Did your Mom like a different dress for you or on you but you decided on the one you got instead? Maybe she just had her heart set on something different for you and is giving you a response out of disappointment? I'm guilty of it too. The one dress my daughter had her heart set on trying on just looked like the other 1000 I've seen. It was just OK...nice dress but nothing special. When she tried on several more in different styles,I was happy she kept looking. When she walked out in the one she ultimately chose,we BOTH knew that was IT!
I have a hard time hiding my true feelings from people who know me best. Even if I say one thing, its written all over my face how I really feel.
Ok, I FINALLY got pictures of me in the dress, so here it is. And PLEASE tell me if it really isn't that great on me! (i do need to get it altered a little cuz its a little big!)
I think this is lovely. Your shoulders look fab! I know you said you need alterations yet, but the bust does need to come up a few inches, no?
Yes! the boobs need some major work! I need to get a bra put in it or buy a bustier! My boobs are all saggy and gross without it, and obviously i'm not wearing anything here! :)
(also, don't mind the glasses or the way i'm looking, i was having a lazy day!)
It's very pretty. I can tell that it needs some alterations in the bust, it looks like it's too big for you. But once that's done it will be wonderful!
Oh stop! That is not true, I am a 36D though so I understand your irritation!!!! I think the gown is gorgeous, love the skirt.
It's beautiful Rosie! With a few alterations, you'll be stopping the show in it!
Rosie Girl - It is beautimous! I don't see why mom would have a ho hum reaction. Were you excited when you were trying it on? Maybe she was trying to take cues from you on how you felt about it.
You say you ordered it online? From where?
Beautiful gown! The color is great on you & the skirt is fabulous. Once it's altered and the girls are reigned in, you'll be magnifique & tres chic! I'm also a big bazonga'd girl, so I totally get it.
Also, you're adorable - love the glasses. :)
Internet BM's to the rescue. :)
heehee! thanks girls! you make me feel better! :)
I actually ordered it from preowned wedding dresses. The girl had never worn it and I got it for $400! Its big for me, but I got a big booty, so it fits in that area! Just need to take it to get altered in the other areas! and some pin up boobs put in!!!!
Rosie, I love your dress! Do you have photos of the back of it? The sweeping skirt looks amazing! And just think....we all already love how it looks....just think about how even extra beautiful you'll feel when you're decked out in wedding hair and makeup, with your bridesmaids by your side and the man you love waiting for you! Congratulations!!!!!!!!
I love your dress! I think with the right undergarments and alterations it will be stunning!
Rosie, you are a very pretty girl and the dress is very nice. It looks good on you. But I understand how your mom wouldn't say "wow"... because it doesn't look fabulous. I think you are so pretty you would look great in about anything, however other shapes would look better on you.
Its a beautiful dress, but can you take up the bust line? If you can bring it up higher on your chest (and maybe cut down the neckline a little bit) I think it might be more flattering. Right now it looks like the bust line is a little too close to your waistline. Alterations will make all the difference, and the details are lovely!

My mom and I have a really good relationship with some major boulders of probs between us in our way! So when we get hung up on one of those, it makes things a little tense and rocky. Well, we had an issue last weekend, and still haven't totally gotten over it. My dress came in on Monday though and I was so happy and excited. So we went into her room and i put it on. Her reaction? Its nice. Looks pretty. Umm... thanks? Not quite what I was going for. And the thing is, I don't have anyone else to show! So I was really hoping she would be like amazed at how gorgeous it was! My FI doesn't want to see it until i'm walking down the isle. my 3 BM don't live here. I'm so sad! I don't know if i'm being selfish either, but I wanted her to react a little more than that!
