I started looking at photographers and venues before we officially got engaged. It didn’t take much longer (maybe a few weeks) but I was very close to booking before we got engaged if it came down to it since we knew when we wanted to get married already (on our anniversary).

I wouldn’t say you’re crazy, but depending on where you are in the ring process it may be a while so I would say for you that you may not want to actually book anything until you know the ring is purchased. Nothing wrong with reaching out for quotes though!

@ny88:  Me too.  I started months ago, and even showed some to my SO.  He has no idea how expensive weddings are, and I am hoping for a intimate destination wedding / elopement packages to save on costs.

It feels a little naughty looking at these wedding sites when I don’t have the ring yet.

I’m in this club!

I’d LOVE an intimate destination wedding. 20-30 people sequestered away in the mountains somewhere. I don’t like being in the spot light and am terrible with dealing with the demands/rudeness of family or friends, so flying far away from all that with immediate family and closest friends sounds like heaven.

I’ve looked at a few venues and photographers. Mainly just collecting bookmarks. As soon as I’m engaged though, I’ll be collecting quotes. Even though we probably won’t marry till late 2015/2016, I’d like to lock in a place especially if we opt for a fall mountain wedding.

We’re having a DW, and I started looking at venues before we were officially engaged. FI knew I was and was encouraging me to start looking. it helped once we got engaged because I already knew what locations we’d be looking into 🙂

I practically had my whole wedding planned way before we got engaged! We had been planning on getting married pretty much after our first year dating, then dated three more years before he finally proposed.

I practically had my whole wedding planned way before we got engaged! We had been planning on getting married pretty much after our first year dating, then dated three more years before he finally proposed. And we both didn’t want a long engagement either. So I got whatever I could get done over with so I wouldn’t stress out.

We are having a destination wedding in Italy and I’d already done most of the research into locations and planners etc well before we got engaged lol.

It meant we were in a position to book within 2 weeks of FI proposing 🙂

You’re totally not crazy. I’m not engaged yet either (though according to SO we’ll be engaged in the next 6 months) and I’ve been gathering plenty of ideas for my DW. But poor SO is super excited and has told all of his friends and family about our DW. I’m glad he’s as excited as I 🙂

I’m doing a DW in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.  I’m sooooo excited.  All-inclusive, white sandy beaches.  YES, PLEASE!
