Hey Ladies! My hubs and I started NTNT this month! I really wanted to NTNT and hopefully get a BFP instead of actively TTC. I am a bit of a planner and feel like charting, temping, etc is just not a good fit for my personality - I could EASILY become totally consumed. So - we are NTNT and I'mr eally hoping that works for us and we don't have to get any more "serious" with our process!

I am SO EXCITED about just the thought of being pregnant - something I could talk about and think about a lot! DH has said he will be excited when it happens but can't really get excited about something that just hasnt happend yet. I wish we were more on the same wavelength but I think this also has something to do with it happening to MY body and not his - maybe its a guy thing!

How many of you got a BFP when NTNT?

I was never NTNT, but if that approach makes you more comfortable, why don't you set a timeline that you are comfortable with - i.e., we will just have fun and see what happens for 6 months, and if I am not KU by then, I will look to into charting, etc.?

I voted yes, but in all fairness I was tracking my cycles. No temping or any of that stuff but I knew when I was ovulating, etc.  I had been tracking to make sure I wouldn't have my period for our wedding.  We started TTC or NTNT on our honeymoon, which was also when I happened to be ovulating.  No dice the first cycle, second cycle I did push a little for BD'ing when we were in the window and the third cycle we ignored everything, went out, got tipsy, came home and made our baby.  So while we had a mix of both, we definitely conceived while NTNT.  Good luck!

@septcabride:  that is exactly what we are planning on doing! If something doesnt happen within 6-8 months I think we will revisit the idea of TTC with charting!

@chrispygal:  thanks! We are sort of similar. While I'm not charting I still can tell within a day or two when I will be ovulating - CRAMPS! We BD at the beginning and end of that window this time around so I'm not getting my hopes up for this cycle! Thanks for the comment!

we were NTNT for the first couple months but then moved on to activily ttc. at this time I also started charting/temping/using OPK's etc. we're in cyle 10 now and still not pregnant. looking back i'm really glad i picked up charting so quickly. it gives me a lot of usefull information.

please keep in mind that once you start charting it will take a few cycles (1-3 maybe)until you know the rules, what to look for, know your body and see your patterns.

    good luck!

I came of bc in August (Depo Provera) so had very, very low expectations in terms of how soon it would take to see a period. First one came in October and we were definitely NTNT, but still knew we wanted to take a few cycles to let everything iron out. November AF came, then December's came and I remember hoping it didn't. Those cycles were like clockwork (I had expected irregularity) and so I did some reading about ovulation and TTC and we were definitely preggo over Christmas. That one didn't stick and we lost that pregnancy early January. I am currently pregnant again. So....yes.....NTNT has gotten us two BFP's, it's just a matter of a sticky one!

I said to DH if we go a year are not preggo we would see our doctor about it, and we put no pressure on ourselves, I just got a little hopeful that time in December and it was really hard to kick it moving forward!

I got pregnant by accident, I was casually charting but obviously I was slightly off because we got pregnant a few months before we were going to TTC.

I figured I would have a hard time getting pregnant, so we used BC sporadically for 7 mos. before diving in to fully TTC. It's been 1 year, 10 mos. since I was on the ring.

We got pregnant our first day of NTNT, so yes, it worked way better than we thought it would.

Like chrispygal, we were officially NTNT but I was aware of my cycles. I was also taking folic acid and trying to eat more fertility-friendly foods. I wasn't charting or temping. I might call it informed NTNT. FWIW, my BFP (on cycle 2) was a little bit of a surprise because I didn't notice any signs of ovulation when I expected them to be there.

@OnTheTwelfth:  informed ntnt -  love it! yes, i think we fall in that category! crossing my fingers and hoping for a bfp before we decide we need to get a little more serious with our trying!

We were NTNT for about three months; I was on medication that made my BC not as effective, and we decided that we didn't really care - we'd take the chance. After about three months, I came off BC entirely, and we began to TTC.

Twelve cycles later, we're still waiting on our BFP.

We were NTNT for 3 months and then I got pregnant. By the third month I had started charting and I knew my O date pretty well so it felt like we were TTC but the thought of coming out and saying that to ourselves was scary for some reason. If NTNT went on any longer I'm sure we would have officially started TTC.

Plantains and I are seriously pregnancy twins - we also got pregnant on our first time of NTNT.   I had been tracking my cycles though, solely for the purpose of seeing what my cycles were doing as they were a bit irregular, so I had a decent idea of when I was ovulating.  We didn't make a conscious effort to time our BDing though, and in fact, the night we stopped preventing was the night after ovulation.  Sure enough, success!

I think it's nice to track your cycles to know what's going on but not get too fussed about timing BD until after a predetermined set period of time.  Good luck!

@coachwife:  yey, so it looks we are ntnt together Cool . totally agree that it's so hard to keep it to yourself while nothing's really happened yet and still it feels like your whole world has changed or is about to change any second... i also don't like the hype that comes with charting etc. so probably this would be something to get serious about after a couple of months. still waiting for my first period to arrive after getting off bc so no informed ntnt for me so far!

We started NTNT in November 2010, went to more active trying in April 2011 and nothing. Finally started pursuing IF testing in November 2011 with GYN. Now I'm in the process of my preliminary testing with an RE. I'm 38 and half and I wish I had checked out treatment sooner.

I guess technically we were NTNT although I really wanted to get pregnant. I stopped taking BC and husband and I pretty much hit it every day for 10 weeks (which wasn't that much more than usual). I really wanted to get pregnant but my cycle is pretty unpredictable so I never knew when I was ovulating and I didn't chart or temp or anything. I think if it had taken much longer I would have probably started buying ovulation kits.

I suppose I am kinda TTC because I'm temping/charting, but that's to make sure I'm NOT pregnant before the wedding, and to get the hang of temping for when I'm "really" TTC

We were kind of a cross-- we knew around when I was ovulating and maybe had sex a time or two extra in that general week, but didn't go real into depth with the temping or detailed charting. DH was very NTNT and I really wanted to actively TTC, so it was a good compromise...and it worked-- prego in month 4 of trying. Good luck!! :D

@coachwife:  Ah! I was just going to say I thought you may be right lol cuz I thought I worded it weird..LOL. It's one of those things that I get the idea of what it is, but dont know what it "means." Like CHDP. Someone asked me what CHDP stood for yesterday (I work in pediatrics) and I was like.. well, I dunno, child something prevention.. haha

OP, you sound just like me. I'm a crazy Type A personality and if/when we do get to the point of actively TTC I'm afraid of how much FI is going to have to rein me in. I get this scary image of my bathroom being plastered with all kinds of nutty charts and a timer going off, etc.

Also, we started NTNT about 2 months ago and AF is currently here, so yeah, hasn't "worked" so far.

@coachwife:  For sure! We've given ourselves about a year of NTNT before we throw in the towel and start doing all the scary stuff. We also decided to table it and have another discussion after we've been married for a while though, so that could change. We're both still young-ish, but I have fertility issues, so we're trying to keep it low-key for our own sanity. If it doesn't work in the next year then we'll re-group and do all the charting/temping/opk stuff, and we've been told by my OBGYN that after 6-8 months of ACTIVELY TTC then we have to make some of the harder choices. Which is probably why we're NTNT -- so there is less pressure!

Good luck to you guys!! *baby dust*

@AmeliaBedelia:  my cousin (like a sister to me!) started with the temping, charting, opk, from the start and it was just a downward spiral for her. that was 3 years ago and she is stil not pregnant. i have NEVER worried about having issues until i saw her go through everything, so i think the low key approach is totally fending off some of that stress - for now!

@coachwife:  Yikes, yes! That's exactly how I can see it going. I don't want it to be like that if it doesn't have to. I mean, obviously if it comes to that, then duh I'll suck it up. But for now at least, we're just going to have fun and see. :)

We did NTNT for 6 months and nothing. My cycle varies so I was not sure when I ovulated so I was not suprised at all that we did not get pregnant. But this is our first month TTC and I got OPK test strips. But I have a contolling/ obsessive personality so I will not allow myself to chart and temp and all that and niether will DH. I would drive myself insane. Just had my yearly check up with my Dr. and she even said women right now are going too far with the charting and stressng out too much over it (she said its like the "in" thing to do) and she stressed that we not go down that road, because it can prevent you from getting pregnant. LOL
