I was planning on a beach/ocean themed nursery as soon as i found out i was having a boy and so as soon as Darling Husband was ready to paint, we went out and got a lovely bright sky blue colored paint and painted the nursery. my next task was to find ocean or beach themed decor and bedding set. Well, i was at Babies R Us last weekend setting up my registry and saw their Lion King nursery bed set, complete with bedding, lamp, laundry hamper and mobile. And i LOVE it! The Lion King is my fave Disney movie of all time and i love all this stuff as much as some people love getting Winnie the Pooh stuff for babies. BUT, i am afraid it won’t look as good with our bright blue walls. In the sample pic below, you can see how everything has an earthy tone and the wall colors match.
My question, since I really don’t have much sense for style and decor, is – do you think the Lion King set would go with bright sky blue colored walls? Or should I try to pretend I never saw the Lion King stuff and focus on my original idea?
ETA: this is the closest pic i could find of the color of our walls:

That Lion King stuff is so cute, and I think it would be fine with blue walls.

I think it depends on if your looking to do a boys room or a baby’s room. If a boys, I would leave the room blue and find something else. If you want a baby’s room in lion king theme I would paint the lower half of the room a green pulled from the comforter set. Then find an outdoor themed border to put between the green and blue. It will look like the outdoors, green grass, blue sky, and you won’t have to paint the whole room. I don’t think the blue with the set goes as is to be honest but really your baby does not care if a room matches or not 🙂

@bricon: thanks for the advice, i like that idea of the green on the bottom. I’ll see what Darling Husband says. I know he is sick of painting. And i also know my baby won’t care one way or another. As i always tell Darling Husband when he comments on how crazy he thinks women are for going crazy with nursery decorating – the nursery theme and “look” is for us not the baby, lol. I have no clue what my nursery looked like when I was a baby. I asked my mom recently though and she told there was just plain white walls!
I think in reality I am asking a question that I already know the answer to, it doesn’t really match. I think I will look around other places for my original idea and see if i get excited about something else. the lion king stuff is really expensive too.

the lion king is cute for baby…and blue is very obviously that it’s a boy…i would bring another color in like one of the PP said…maybe a pale green. just remember he will GROW into this room…so don’t make it too cutsey so when hes 5/10/etc you will keep having to change it out….i happen to be a huge fan of “adult” baby rooms..
also…if you do another color..don’t do yellow..it makes babies anxious & not sleep as much 😉

@karenlinebarger: i guess i wasn’t thinking ahead in terms of him growing into the room since we live in a small apt and have no intention of staying here more than a couple of years. So really i want to do something cute and inexpensive. When we settle down somewhere though, i will keep in mind that it will be a room he will have for years. maybe he will give me some input then on what he wants! And don’t worry, yellow is one of my least favorite colors! I do like the green idea, just depends on what Darling Husband says. I think for sure though i won’t make any rash decisions and keep looking around for other options. I just haven’t been able to get that Lion King stuff out of my mind since I saw it!

If your planning on moving in a few years anyway, I think the blue is fine. It “goes” without “matching” which I think is a great thing. Some people get so theme-y its insane, especially since your baby could care less what his room looks like. I love the Lion King!

I actually really like the idea of the lion king stuff with the blue walls. The wall color is awesome, and I think the contrast with the bedding will make a really nice statement. If its to dramatic for you, there are some easy ways to tie it together. Look for some lion king wall decals or prints, to carry the color theme up to the walls. Look for a blue ribbon or fabric that matches the wall color, and use it to accent some of the bedding set- trim out a pillow or something like that. Look for a throw rug with both a blue and beige in it. I think it will look great!

ok, now you are both making me lean towards getting it!! I especially like the idea of getting more blue accents into the decor to make it fit better. I will think about that – would definitely be easier than painting half the room again (which I am sure Darling Husband would tell me is up to me to do now since he painted it all blue at my request!).
I will have to wait until i buy all my other baby essentials (stroller, car seat, etc) and see if I can even afford the Lion King stuff. And in the mean time, i will keep my eye out for other ideas that go with the blue. But i think the Lion King is still in the running for now 🙂
