When we did little boy’s room, it was already a light green painted for walls so we didn’t paint but we did do Winnie the Pooh theme (which is a fave of mine from when I was little).  The funny thing everything that I got for stuffed animals to few loveies for little boy he really doesn’t care for Pooh.  Oh well.  I still love his room.

I picked out bedding I liked and then went from there. πŸ™‚ I was very picky about it. I’m not a fan of really theme-y or childish nurseries. I wanted a simple, modern set with fun colors. I picked out a few I liked and I let DH make the final choice from there.

These were the top 2:

DH picked the 2nd one.

We ended up much more traditional than I’d like but I still think her nursery is awesome. We did pink and white with pops of chocolate brown and cherry blossoms. She has white furniture for the most part, an heirloom dresser from the 40s and a modern crib. She has an antique, dark wood rocker. White ruffled curtains. For accessories, we stuck with the colors rather than the cherry blossom “theme” and added in different patterns (polka dots, pinstripes, chevron) to give it visual interest and make it more modern.

Something totally different and cute: dogs! Found this really cute themed fabric idea, keeping with the peridot and gray! This pillow is from VeeDubz on Etsy, and I’m trying to figure out if she has any other products in this fabric. Adorable! Could be great for a little boy’s room:

and for a little girl, I found this gorgeous gray wall & monogram:

and here’s a close-up of the Damask bedding, love how the framed butterfly pictures mesh with the look:

I did a nautical theme for my little boy’s nursery. I kept it REALLY simple. Dark wood furniture, crisp white fitted sheet as opposed to a full blown bedding set. I made a lot of anchor and sailboat centered art myself to hang on the walls and I have a few nautical knick knacks I found while thrifting on some shelves or hanging on the walls. It’s very calm and serene to walk into. Not overly done or chaotic and not super “theme-y” because that’s not what I wanted lol I just took one idea and found a few key pieces and worked around them to make it look nice.

If you want a gray accent wall, I’d totally just start there. Elephants are gray, and elephants and monkeys hangout! So you could just do full on jungle. Or even circus! There are monkeys in the circus, too! (AND ELEPHANTS!! Laughing) This way you get your monkeys and it’s a bit different from all the other monkey nurseries πŸ™‚

And for a girl you could do gray damask instead of black, so it’s a bit different and unique there, too!

Just be creative and crafty and no matter what you decide you can make it fun and unique πŸ™‚

I plan on doing a pattern/color theme when it finally comes to that (long way off it now seems)

so purple paisley or blue dots etc and play with textures, fabrics and patterns.

Not TTC, but I really want green and brown teddy bears, and then adding pink or blue after birth.  But I can’t find teddy bears for the life of me – everything green is monkeys!

My son is 10 weeks now but this is his nursery.  Just find a piece of inspiration and go from there.  Also decide what type of feeling you want the room to give you and your child.  I wanted a soothing room.  I am of the opinion that a nursery should be calming and not overstimulating but to each their own.  πŸ™‚
