I use nuva ring.  I don’t insert on my first day – it’s usually like the third day (kinda gross).  If my schedule was to take it out on Friday, I usually start my period the next Tuesday and I re-insert on Thursday night (I know I should wait until Friday, but this way it stops once the weekend comes around).  You can wear tampons with the ring.

If you have any other questions, PM me.

Hmm, I don’t really do it based on the day of my period. I take it out on a Sunday and put it in the following Sunday. You are supposed to have it in for three weeks and out for one week. After taking it out on Sunday, I usually don’t start my period til Thursday, so I put my ring in on about the fourth day of my period. Once I put it in, my period stops within a couple days. Until then, I wear tampons — like Snowflake said, you can wear tampons with the ring.

Don’t worry about your period and just stay consistent with your in/out days!

I just reread your question and I just realized you are just now starting the ring, or at least that what it sounds like. Follow the directions about how to start using it. Your period will probably stop sooner than it would otherwise, but yes, you can continue to use tampons while you are on the ring. It’s also okay to take it out and rinse it off as long as you don’t have it out for longer than 3 hours in 24 hours. After my period is over, I usually take it out and rinse it off to feel cleaner.

Make sure if you use the tampon AND the ring together, you put your other hand down there to catch the ring. Chances are your tampon will catch on your ring and drag it out, and plop! in the toilet it goes. It’s no fun retrieving it, rinsing it, then putting it back in =]. But if you catch it, you can just stick it back up there

Follow the starting instructions, and its gets much less messy/stressful from here on out.   Ejs4y8… I’m confused.  Why would the ring be in adn you be on your period.  I take it out on a monday… start my period by tues/wed and stop by sat/sun and put a new ring in next monday.  Is that not the norm?

Love the Nuv!  mdarrah, I think everyone just responds differently.  It takes me about three days to get my period after I take out the ring, and I put it back in exactly one week after I took it out.  My period is always done by that time.  But a roommate of mine had to insert hers while she had her period and she said it wasn’t a big deal with wear it with tampons.  I guess it just depends on how your body processes the hormones.

I am more prone to yeast infections and UTIs since I’ve been on the ring… but changing out of wet bathing suits quickish and a glass of cranberry from time to time seems to keep those under control just fine.  I MIGHT be experiencing a diminished sex drive.  I’ve just recently realized that I really dont feel the urge much and a few people have brought up that it could be due to prolonged hormonal BC use… I’m still looking into this and trying to figure it out while looking into IUD hormone free options.  All in all, i’ve been pleased as punch with my light periods and only having to deal with BC once a month!

I had the Nuva ring for a year and hated it! It was more due to what I was comfortable with than because of any side effects.

I was single at the time and sort of ‘playing the field’ .. I was very self conscious and worried about if anyone fingered me while I was wearing it. They would feel it and that bothered me. Also my ex boyfriend told me he could feel it during sex, and that just wasn’t sitting well with me.

Sorry about the not so lady like language. /blush =/

Thanks crebre!

Ive been on the ring for years and this is something I am literally just now figuring out and it might not be from it at all.  I really dont know, but I know its happend to others while some seem to have no issues.

Stassney,

He could feel it during sex?  interesting.  My husband says he can feel it manually but it doesnt bother him because he knows its there and stable, but he says he cant feel it during sex.  But – thats me.
