So my period came about a week early for the first time in a while. It came on Thursday, and I’m supposed to take the ring out tomorrow and then put a new one in a week from Monday. I’m usually really good about (TMI!) making sure the ring doesn’t come out when I’m switching tampons if my period is still happening when I put a new ring in, but I completely forgot this morning and it fell out.
So what should I do now? Completely change my schedule? I think I could put the new one in now and just not have the week off, and since it’s been less than 3 hours I should still be protected. And I have my period now anyway, so sex probably won’t be happening for another couple of days. It says to follow the same schedule, but I’m clearly not going to put one in to just take it out tomorrow.
That’s probably my best option, but can anyone back this up for me? I get so nervous with birth control related issues sometimes and I’d love a second opinion.

@juliana192: Why didn’t you just put it right back in when it came out?
Here’s the Nuvaring FAQ site: http://www.nuvaring.com/Consumer/faqs/index.asp
Since it’s been more than 3 hours, it looks like they recommend a new ring ASAP.

@beachbride1216: Because it was in the toilet. I also didn’t realize until about an hour later when I went to the bathroom again and realized that I hadn’t checked.

I would leave it out and put the new one in a day early or whatever is proportionate.
That is exactly why I quit nuva ring. I didn’t have it on my period, but every single time I DTD, I had to remember to immediately look for it, wash it, and put it back in. It just seemed insane.

I would just put the new one in when you’re normally scheduled to put it in. If you’re nervous, use condoms as a backup for awhile.
