@ChellFish22:  I was under the impression that the hormones start to wear out afte 3 weeks, so it’s actually better to just use it for three weeks and put a new one in immediately after if you want to skip your period. I could be wrong though. I just did a Google search and I’m getting mixed information.

I’ve been on the Nuvaring for over a year, and I had a few months where I would start bleeding shortly after taking the ring out or on one occasion before I even took it out. My doctor thinks I’m just really sensitive to the hormones so my body does weird things on BC. Totally not helpful. Being a girl is the pits sometimes!

@ChellFish22:  Take it out for a week once every three months. (So 4 weeks in, 4 weeks in, 3 weeks in-1 week out, 4 weeks in…)

It will stop the break-though bleeding. Same thing happened to me ALL the time!

I will push my periods back a week or so (by leaving the ring in a week longer), and I’ll occassionally get break through bleeding like what you’re describing for a day or two.

In my experience I’ve never had luck completely skipping periods (by putting a new ring in/skiping the placebo pills/while on the shot). I always have breakthrough bleeding.

@ChellFish22:  I tried 3 different pills before starting the Nuvaring (so I was on 4 different types of BC over 5 years). The pills just did not work out for me. The last one I was, for the last 2 months I had 2 periods each month. It was really awful. And I’ve had some breakthrough type stuff with Nuvaring. My doctor said often with BC it’s whatever is the “least annoying.” Awesome. I think after the wedding I want to switch to just condoms (right now we double up b/c I’m paranoid) until we’re ready to start TTC because I’m really sick of the hormone stuff.

@ChellFish22:  I have never had any problems like that on NuvaRing, and I’ve been on it for 4 years. I don’t get cramping or spotting at all. But, I also don’t try to skip my period. Ever. I figure that taking BC is already messing with our natural cycles way too much, so I try to keep it somewhat-natural and allow my body to have its monthy period. Seems to be working for me.
