Has anyone else seen this? I just can't believe that poor kid is stuck flying away in this balloon! My heart is seriously aching for him!

OMG I was just going to post this! It's beyond crazy.

"Since the door on the balloon was unlocked, Martinez said it's possible the boy had fallen out" --- what does that mean?!

The channel I have the TV on has been running this story for about 30 minuets. I feel for the kid, but really I can only take so much of watching the balloon in the air. They haven't said anything new, and it's sad. Hope he's gonna be okay!

They say the little boy is okay, but they are not sure if anyone was really in there. Weird. But at least the little boy was okay. The balloon was in the air for over an hour!

Yup, we are watching it on the news right now. So horrible. I want to know why his dad is just was like "He went in it." Well why didn't you stop him?! Crazy people. The ballon is empty though, so either he didn't go in it, or he fell out. I really hope he didn't fall. =[

They got it down? When I had the news on, they hadn't yet. That whole story is absolutely INSANE and you know his parents are going to be charged with child endangerment. That was just irresponsible.

It was on every single news station! Glad to hear they got it down, though.

Apparently it came down on it's own. The news is saying the boy is fine, but when it came down no one was in it. They are waiting for "visual confirmation" of what was really going on.

the boy isnt fine - he is missing.  He wasnt in the balloon when it landed and they think he fell out.  This story is horrifying

So scary - NYT says the boy is still missing, they are afraid he fell out.

I want to know where the heck this little boy is! I was watching them get the helium out of the balloon - and I was like "there could be a little boy in there and you're using a shovel to hit the balloon to pop it?!?!?" Seriously. I get the feeling there's a large part of this story we are so not being told ... of course, that's pretty typical of the news. But it's driving me crazy!

at first I thought maybe he ran into the house to hide after he untied it - fear of getting in trouble.  But apparently he WAS in the balloon when it took off - his brother saw him climb into the basket.  Since he isnt in it now, they believe he fell out.  Im not sure about that shovel thing though - thats the same thing I said.  Why would they hack away at this thing without knowing where in it he was?  Unless there wasnt a way for him to be anywhere inside of the large part.  who knows, but my heart goes out to his poor family

This is totally completely random. Wow. I hope he climbed out or something and that he didn't actually fall out, how sad =(

Yeah, the news was saying that, too. The family was on wife swap and they are into science. The balloon was some sort of experiment. If he was in the balloon, they shouldn't be beating it down! Are they searching for him now, or just assuming he fell out, or what? I'm guessing he had to have been in there because my FI said he could see where is butt and elbows were sticking out when it was in the air. I hope they find him!

According to a few news outlet they are saying he could have fallen out because the door was possibly unlocked! I am just in shock, this is such a freak accident!

I live in Colorado and I just heard about this story.  A parent of one of my kids told me and i totally thought he was joking!  The local news is saying that the boy has not been found.  This is insane... I hope he's okay!

I'm so glad he is safe.  He must have been scared out of his mind, too young to realize that the entire USA was watching what they thought to be him in a balloon hundreds of feet up!

@ photoist: really? You think his family should pay for it? It's not like his parents knew where he was!  They were just as concerned as the rest of us watching (well, probably a lot more so).  Hmm, I wonder what the consequences will be though.

@ lattelove  probably not the most PC or popular opinion here, but I think they should foot the bill. I have my reasons for feeling that way but I'll refrain from saying so since my opinions are quite blunt for a space like weddingbee. :)

I disagree about the bill footing since everyone firmly believed he was in that balloon.  However, both of those boys need to be grounded for life.

oh come on this is the funniest thing i've heard in a long time! with parents who are crazy enough to build UFOs, how can you think something like this wouldn't happen? they pretty much asked for it.

i think it's hilarious and i can totally see m's son doing that honestly.. there was that time that he locked me, his sister and my son out of the house (by accident) when he was 5 (YEAH RIGHT!!) it was hilarious now looking back on it but i was in tears because i thought he'd hurt himself and we couldn't get to him.
