@mightywombat: I was incredibly excited today when I saw the news.  I was hoping so much that this would happen soon instead of drawing this out for a long time.

I have been following this closely for the past month or so. So-so many people I know weren’t even aware anything was happening!

I am not sure if I am excited or happy by this news.  I will have to see what develops.

I’m happy too and hoping it cools down – I have a friend over there for a study-abroad program and I’ve been slightly worried for her safety, just in general. Hopefully this gives them the push they need! *sigh*

I’m so excited and happy for the people of Egypt. They are finally free of that man.

I’m hoping things will settle down. As much as Zahi Hawas annoys me I do want the museum to be a bit more stable and protected, same for the other sites in the country.

But I am happy Mubarak is out, after he didn’t step down at first I got a little [more] worried.

I only hope that this leads to freedom and happiness for them. But no matter what happens, it is a beautiful thing that (mostly) peaceful protests brought about such change!

It’s very exciting, but I’m still thinking about what happens next. Is the military running the government? For how long? How will they decide what happens next?

@spaniel:  I agree.  Having a military run government does not sound like an excellent solution to me.  I would like to wait and see what the plans are to transition out of this period.

And I wouldn’t exactly call the protests peaceful.  Perhaps that was the original intent but we all know that many people were hurt or killed.

@Moose1209: Yea but the people hurt and killed were hurt by police or snipers, not the demonstrators.  they did get rowdy, but only when they were being run over!

I’m very excited to see what happens, I was so angry yesterday when Mubarak spoke and gave the middle finger to the country. It makes me proud to see people standing up for themselves and making a difference, I wish the US were capable of it.
