I suck at budgeting when it comes to Christmas! I do really okay for people I plan to spend a little more on (like FI). My budget was $200 and I pretty much stuck to that. But for people I say I’m not going to spend so much on, I kind of fail. This year I said I was going to cut back to 50ish each for my parents because we all agreed to cut back a bit on Christmas due to wedding expenses. Total fail. There was nothing that I wanted to buy them for $50. It just felt stupid to me to buy them something they could and would so easily buy for themselves. And I love to do homemade, but I couldn’t think of anything they wanted. So I totally blew my budget out of the water and spent $100 on a Chi for my mom and $150 on a camera for my dad. Lucky for me my FI totally understands because he is an over-gifter too. 🙂
So, tell me I’m not the only one? Who else totally failed at budgeting?

I love giving gifts! It was easy to not spend too much this year though with DH’s salary….i bet next year we buy too much!
Parents are so hard, though! i ended up buying my mom clothes and scarves and i got my dad some motorcycle shirts. Kind of lame presents I think =

I totally failed when it comes to my nieces. We aren’t buying for anyone over 18 so four of them are little girls and one is 16. We were trying to stick to the budget for each but i blew the budget on clothes for them… ANNND the SO bought for them too!

Between the wedding and Christmas I feel like I’m spending money like it’s going out of style!!! 🙂

I try so hard to plan out what I am going to get everyone but then little things always come along that I can’t resist. It’s the worst with my sister because I could probably find her a new gift everyday. Just when I think my shopping is finished, something too perfect to pass up comes along.

Oh yea! Just for the gifts that we’ve bought so far we’ve spent almost as much to cover our DJ and photographer! When I look at it that way, it’s crazy. Though, between mine and FI’s family we have about 25 people to buy for. The biggest gifts have been for our parents. My mom got a GPS, my dad got a new grill, my FMIL got a kindle and my FFIL got an ice fishing shanty. We also got each of them a few smaller gifts as well. We really should have cut back this year with our wedding next year and all but Christmas is HUGE in my family.
