Another thread, asking about sleeping with your SO, on WB led me to this question:  How many nights a week do you typically have nightmares or bad dreams?

I have bad dreams almost every night.  They're almost always different dreams, very rarely reacurring.  I'm not sure why, but it's been that way ever since I can remember.  Just two nights ago I had a dream so vivid, I woke my FI up because I was so breathing hard it was like I had ran a marathon.

So fellow bees, how often do you have nightmares?

I often get nightmares when I have a migraine. I don't know if it's caused by the migraine itself or by the migraine medicine, or if it's just a coincidence (since, after all, correlation does not imply causation), but almost every time I go to bed with a migraine, I have a nightmare or three. Most of the time these are recurring nightmares (drowning, getting stung by wasps, the brakes not working in the car), but other times they're completely random and bizarre.

I hate bad dreams.  I get them if I have lots of stress or if I drink a little...

@azula- I don't get migraines, so I don't know what the excuse is for me.  :(  I'd like to find out though!  It'd be nice to try to avoid them!

@cbee-  I tend to sleep the best after a few drinks!  Haha

For some reason I only, and have always, had only nightmares.  Some are more intense than others but they're all nightmares.  I don't know why.  Sigh.

yes.  i have lots of nightmares, always have.  SO thinks it's weird since he says he never has them.  Typically my drerams are about people dying or disappearing forever in someway.

Mine are so detailed that they always feel real.  Always.

I had read somewhere that people typically dream in black and white, while my dreams are always completely in color.  The only time I remember ever having black and white dreams is when I dream that I can't turn any lights on and it's dark and I have to feel my way around everywhere.

@veganglam-  I am so sorry that you have only ever had nightmares.  :(  I know how terrible I feel after I wake up from one, I can't imagine waking up from one every single night.

@PirateJenn-  I've had dreams before that were about my FI cheating on me or leaving me for one reason or another.  I usually have to talk myself into believing that it didn't really happen when I wake up.  Haha  I have, in the past, actually held a grudge for a few hours from one particularly bad dream like that!

@kericita-  Your SO is lucky.  I envy him!

I had a nightmare last night too :(  They are so awful.  I usually try to "control" them, lucid dream a little, but yikes, can they be bad.  I have to consciously forget them the next day to not be affected.

Usually when I got to bed, depends one what mood Im in. If I have been in a bad mood all day, I'll usually have a nightmare. If you get to read a book or something before you go to sleep that usually helps me to settle my mind before I fall asleep. And just like piratejenn said, everytime I have a nightmare, its almost a reality. Like if I fall or scrape my arm, its almost as if I actually feel it. My vote was the sometimes, but I have notice I get them sometime with my migraines as well. I just wonder if its connected to the medicine.

@LindsayB: yeah, it sucks, but I've kind of gotten used to it?  It wasn't till I was about fourteen that I started realizing all my dreams were nightmares, and to prove this was actually true, and not just selective memory, I started writing down my dreams every night, or what I could remember of them.  Yep, all nightmares.  I don't know what the deal is.

And I've heard it said that most people dream in black and white, and without dialog, but is that true??  I've never had a black and white dream, nor have I had a dream without dialog, so I find that hard to believe.  The black and white thing I find especially hard to believe.  Why would we dream in black and white when we experience the waking world in vivid color?  What about the rest of the bees, what are your dreams like?

I used to have full on night terrors when I was planning the wedding where I thought people were chasing me/trying to hurt me but since the wedding I haven't dreamed much, or haven't remembered them really.

I started having more nightmares when I got pregnant.  It's the weirdest thing; my nightmares aren't necessarily pregnancy-related, but now I have them almost every night.

I have nightmares every night.  And it's been like that for years.  I can only ever remember one nice dream - ever...  It's when I was scuba diving with my husband and a friend, and I remember waking up so happy.

Honestly, the nightmares are awful.  It's always about people dying around me, or about me fighting for my life.  I won't go into them in graphic detail, but they are so horrible.

I don't have any reason for them either - I live a happy and fulfilling life.  I wish I knew how to stop them - it's making me not want to go to sleep anymore!  And I feel like a freak, because I know most people don't have them.

If you google nightmares, (I did in desparation, hoping for a 'cure',) it seems most people get them only every once in a while... and only in times of stress or anxiety.  So I don't know what to do.  :-(

I usually have really bizarre and scary dreams a couple of days before my period.  It only started in the last year, but ever since Nov. or Dec. I've had at least to days in a row right before my period where I have horrible, weird dreams.  I guess it's because of the hormonal change in my body?  Undecided

I get weird dreams or nightmares when it's hot at night, or when I'm thirsty in the middle of the night. And I usually wake up with a headache. It's usually not that often, maybe 2 or 3 times every 2 weeks.

My nightmares are usually so bizarre that they're not all that terrifying, and sometimes I'm aware that they're just weird dreams at the time.  Very rarely I have dreams that are truly terrifying, but a couple times a month I have dreams that are *bad* but so bizarre or exciting (bad stuff happens but I am awesome and lead everyone on an awesome apocalytic adventure) that they don't really wake me up in terror.

Are you on any kind of medication?  I know I was taking an SSRI for anxiety a while back and I had terrible dreams, very vivid.  I would clench my teeth all night and my jaw would hurt in the morning.

Normal is 1-3 times a yr for adults.  I put often but the reality is i have 1-2 nightmares a night, but it changes.  I go through the time that i have them every signle night mroe than once.  Then my "normal" is 2-4 times a week.  I have been like this since i was a kid sleeping is a big pain for me but then there are the good dreams to look forward to.  I remember at least one of my dreams every night which also very weird for ppl:)

IF you do not mind me asking have u had a bad esperience (no need to share it here) in your past causing this to happen? Cs i know the source my bad dreams (at least most of them).

I have them sometimes (maybe once a month). But I always remember my dreams, and they're always extremely odd!
