Hmm.. you definitely could call.  What time is it where you are?

ETA: Or you could go knock on their door and not-so-politely ask them to keep it the F down – personally, I’d start with that, and if it doesn’t work then call the cops.

Have you actually talked to them about it? Like, a friendly neighbor suggestion? It really bothers me when people don’t deal with issues directly. If they don’t pipe down after being informed that it’s disturbing you, THEN I would call. Maybe they seriously think you don’t care…I bet a face-to-face reminder that they have neighbors would help…and if not, call the police again.

I call as soon as I am annoyed, that is usually by 9:00pm.

I also go and bang on the door and tell them to shut the eff up, I contact building management, their leasing agent and anyone else who will listen.

I despise inconsiderate people!

BTW I am not talking about just a little noise, I am talking about floor shaking, wall rattling, idiot friends screaming at the top of their lungs noise.

Go ahead and call. You are well within your rights to call a noise complaint at ANY time, but they sound like kind of, er, “aggressive” people so I wouldn’t personally knock on their door myself – just leave it to the cops.

I had a cop knock on my door at 8:15pm because of my TV one time – so yeah, your complaint is not trivial compared to my lame neighbor’s.

@MrsCaruso2be:  How is your relationship with them? Do you think they’d turn it down if you asked? If not, I would call the cops. You probably aren’t the only ones they’re disturbing.

It takes a lot for me to call the cops for noise. I’ve lived in a lot of apartments over the last few years and have had a lot of seriously shitty neighbors (including drug dealers, which was entertaining).

I’ll call if it’s really late – like 2am or later. I’ll call if I think there may be a domestic disturbance/domestic violence issue. I’ll call if the noise is associated with something illegal, or if I think someone’s going to end up getting hurt (like if there’s a big party and I can hear someone getting sick outside and no one’s caring for them).

Other than that? I either go handle it myself by knocking (which I only do if I know the neighbors are safe to approach) or I put in some earplugs. Check the noise ordinances for your area – usually after 11pm you can call due to ‘excessive noise.’ Some municipalities actually let you report it online, which is handy.

Better to call and let the police deal with them.

I’d check your local noise by-laws. I think in most areas, after 11pm you’re supposed to tone down the noise. When I was living in an apartment, I gave people a grace period of 30 min before calling to complain (if it wasn’t a repeat constant offense). In my case, I just called the security number for the apartment rental company – not the police.

If it’s before the time designated by the noise by law, unfortunately, there’s nothing the police can do.
