What's the best concert you've ever been to? I have a few favourites (this is spawned by sitting in my livingroom listening to Brandi Carlile and reminiscing!):
Of all time, I think it would have to be The Strokes. They were always so good live, one of those bands that didn't sound totally different off-record.
I always love me a good Ben Kweller show too :)
hands down, U2 concert in 2005. I should have been seeing them last weekend too, but it was canceled!
I saw the Dixie Chicks about 2 years ago in Oakland - AMAZING. I also so Earth Wind and Fire with Chicago that was awesome and Tim McGraw who I've seen 2x who gets better every time.
oasis/the black crowes. best concert I've ever seen hands down.
Gordon Lightfoot at the San Francisco Opera House where he performed songs not usually offered because the accoustics are superb.
Ready to laugh....Britney Spears!! Seriously!!! I was not a huge fan of hers but she was playing in Vegas when I was there so we got tickets. And the show was absolutely amazing! So entertaining!!! I know she lip synchs but it was still great!
Has anyone been to a Dashboard Confessional show before? Those ones are always one big sing along - definitely have never experienced such intense singing from a crowd besides at their shows!
@waitingbee: Dixie Chicks was up in my top 10, I just had already listed 5 so I didn't put it down. They throw an AMAZING concert. When they sang Shut Up and Sing, they got like a 5 minute standing O, no exaggeration, they didn't even know how to react. It was a beautiful moment.
Oh i also loved their show!! There was so many times I had the chills!
@MissJay: I've heard awesome things about Britney's concerts!!! I went to see NKOTB a couple weeks ago at a casino nearby and thought it would be awful, but it was SOOOOOO much fun! I was shocked!
@bloodgo1: i saw them play many years ago at a radio sponsored concert - they weren't the only ones who played but they put on a good show
get this... i just bought my ticket for my millionth HANSON concert!! haha i am so pumped! i'll just never be able to let them go lol
Dashboard Confessional at SXSW a few years ago - I've been to several DC concerts, but at this particular one, he was sick and could barely even sing, and so all of us in the audience started singing at the top of our lungs, and we "helped" him through the rest of the concert. It was a pretty incredible show!
@bloodgo1:Hanson?! LOL! That's awesome! Do they still have all the hair?!
@amariem25: I've always wanted to see U2 live, but it seems like a pain in the butt to get tickets, and I just am not committed enough to fight for it!
My favorite concerts are probably just seeing all my favorite acts live:
- Ani DiFranco in Madison, Wisconsin, a few years ago and she sang Untouchable Face and a bunch of other great older songs.
- Andrew Bird at a small venue in Madison. So cute.
- Regina Spektor at a small venue in Madison. Her voice is beautiful and so is she!
- Sigur Ros.
- Haley Bonar, an artist local to Minnesota. Amazing. Check it out: http://www.myspace.com/haleybonar
no :( zac and isaac cut theirs. last time i saw them taylor still had decently long locks but not like as intensely hahaha whatever, taylor hanson will always be one of the best looking guys ever to me
FI and I were just talking about this on our way to the Sasquatch music festival out here in Washington state. We're lucky to have had a ton of unbelievable conert experiences together, but we both agree that the most fantastic and unforgettable was seeing LCD Soundsystem and Arcade Fire on the last stop of the Neon Bible tour in 2007. They sold out Randall's Island in NYC for the event, and it was just incomparable. I still have a limited-print artist's poster from the show, we're going to put it up in our study.
Hands down, Usher! I went to his Confessions Tour in Miami and he brought a lot of great artists to open the show for him. Not only that, but I had killer seats and sat close to the stage where Missy Elliott and Shaq were sitting with their families. It was a great time!
@bloodgo: I LOVE HANSON! All my friends still make fun of me and start singing Mmmbop. My favorite CD of theirs is Underneath. I've been to a few Hanson concerts. I <3 them.
@Boston Bee: hahaha that's awesome!! underneath is definitely wonderful! i still hear 'snowed in' all of the time in stores during the holidays, that always makes me super happy lol i've loved them since they came out when like in 95? i can't just stop now!
I saw Willy Nelson outdoors at a Brewery. It was warm and rainy and the set was amazing. I was in college, watching from outside the gate, and a man walked right up to me and gave me a free ticket. It was rad.
Yael Naim at the Union in Madison last year- wonderful show.
Mirah in a small, very small venue in Missoula, Montana.
Pearl Jam in 2003 opening the second leg in Missoula.
Davy Jones (The Monkees) at the Tulsa State Fair - It was absolutely amazing. My family traveled 6 hours to see him perform. He was completely adorable and so nice! The energy in the crowd was amazing, and it was so awesome to see how many people still love his music. I also got his autograph after the show. There were so many people there, but he insisted on staying so he could get to as many of his fans as possible. It just made me adore him all the more.
Micky Dolenz (The Monkees) at the Botanical Gardens (I think) - Again, amazing. There was so much energy. I knew almost all of the songs, and I was just entertained the entire time. It was outdoors and the weather and atmosphere was just perfect. Plus, I was able to get his autograph afterwards. I remember basically hyperventilating while I waited in line, I was so excited.
If I could see either of these artists perform again, I would be ecstatic.
I saw Aerosmith last summer. We were about 15 rows from the stage. It was amazing. For being 62, Steven Tyler has so much energy. I'll be happy if I have half of that energy when I'm his age.
My FI got us tickets to see James Otto, Leann Rimes, and Josh Turner for my birthday. We were in the 5th row at center stage. It was like Josh Turner was serenading me. He is such a handsome man. lol.
@Superstitions: I loveeee the Monkees! I've seen Davy Jones 6 times in concert. He was great. I feel like such a nerd, but I love when he sings "Girl" from that Brady Bunch episode. haha.
Keith Urban... he is AMAZING in concert. I ALWAYS have a great time when we see him! He is so genuine and it shows. This past week he celebrated his anniversary with Nicole Kidman and brought her along with him to CO. It was so sweet he dedicated "Making memories of us" to her. Definitely standing room only material!
Concert for Walden Woods (Foxboro Stadium Sept 1993) This included:
Melissa Etheridge, Elton John, Sting, Aerosmith, Jimmy Buffett and Don
Henley.
Elton John + Billy Joel's "Face2Face" tour in Philly last summer...A-freakin-mazing. Set list is here:
I dare you to find more awesomeness in one place....they went for 4hrs straight. Tickets were probably the most I've ever spent, but worth every last penny. Can't wait to (hopefully) do it again.
Hmmmmm. I saw Jimi Hendrix when I was 7 years old; my brother obviously couldn't find a babysitter for me. I didn't have a clue who he was at the time.
For visuals, Pink Floyd, the Delicate Sound of Thunder tour. Peter Gabriel - Secret World tour - a close second.
"Feel-good" sing Along, foot-stomping - The Tragically Hip. Day to Night tour. On my bday. My friends arranged for us to meet them afterwards cos of my birthday. Awesome experience.
For mid-twisting humor and all around musical ability - Franka Zappa.
For just-got-to-get-up and dance - Johnny Winter, early 90s. Saw him in 2007 and he was in sad, sad, shape. Broke my heart that night.
In more recent times, I guess Smashing Pumpkins or Jane's Addiction.
That's my favorites out of hundreds. Probably the equivalent of just one for most of you young'ens. LOL
The Killers, Sam's Town tour. Day and Age tour was pretty good but Sam's Town has a special place in my heart.
Also Juanes, Mi Sangre tour. Ton of fun!
John Mayer during the Room for Squares years. Isn't that crazy? I saw Bob Dylan a few years ago and wanted to love it, but he really just wasn't feeling it that night. It was nothing to write home about, which was a huge disappointment. Kings of Leon opened for him, though, and they were great.
Actually one of the best I didn't even attend... Elton John played Wrigley Field and I was walking around outside (my neighborhood) - because Wrigley is open on top, I could hear the whole thing. THAT was amazing.
I am a really lucky duck and have been invited to a couple of awesome concerts
Garth Brooks played for a room of less than 100 people at the Wynn right before he got his contract and I'm not a country music fan but i was that night. You couldn't buy tickets but I knew someone in marketing.
One of our suppliers put on a private concert for us with Jurassic 5 and they are something else, I such an amazing time, didn't hurt that we had free liquor.
Rise Against- SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH FREAKING ENERGY, Greenday is up there.
THE worst concert EVER!
-The Ataris, and Jimmy Eat World, so lame and boring
Can I say one that hasn't happened yet because I am SO excited to see it?
John Mayer's Battle Studies Tour at the Hollywood Bowl in August. I know every single one of his songs by heart and each album he puts out is better than the previous. I know he is a d*** head in terms of personality but his music is so amazing :D
Metallica - 2008 in Prague, Czech Republic. I've been to many concerts but this was the best!
concerts i'e been to
silver chair, the offspring, Pink & Brittney ... but the best was Justin Timberlake he came to Aust about 3 yrs ago... we got tix free from a friends and we were right at the back row but he was awesome!!!
@ssandy: I went to see Metallica in Jan '09 with FI. Not my cup of tea, but it was an amazing concert. Definitely the best I've ever been to.
Other than that, I'd have to say Elton John my freshman year of college.
@bloodgo1: Dashboard is definitely the best concert I've every been to. Like you said, it's a big sing along and it's just an amazing feeling to be surrounded by so many people, singing the words. Not to mention, he's pretty cute :)
I've only been to about 6 concerts in my life, and 4 of them were Dashboard Confessional concerts!
