I know with Verizon, you can split 700 minutes, which would be good if you don't use a lot of them anyway. We figured it out, and FI would save about $20 a month if I joined his and we split the bill.
I'm not sure how data plans work with family plans, though.
We did this when it got engaged and it has saved so much money. We were both paying almost $100 each and now we pay $120 for both of us. I am in my office all day and then I go to gym, walk the dogs, etc. so by the time I use my phone anyways it's night and free.
We are on a family plan too, and it does save money vs having separate accounts. We are with Verizon and even though its expensive, its worth it for the service. We have 550 shared minutes and unlimited text and pix and its $120 a month. My BFF has the same plan and hers is 90 by herself, so yeah its definitely worthwhile to be on someone else's plan if you can
we just did this for DH and I. It's only been like a month but I need to re-evaulate soon and see if we can go down on our minutes. The only way to get free 5x line friends/family is to not get the cheapest plan. We have 1400 only because we wanted friends/family. I was going over the base # of minutes 450 before so upgraded to higher plan and now don't use any mintues - I only ever call a few people!
its all a giant mess (for everyone) but we saved money by joinging into a family plan!
Thanks Bees! FH's work pays for $50 of his phone bill for work anyway so I'm sure it will be much better for me to be on his plan :)
My hubs and I easily share 700 minutes/month (Verizon). Most of my family and his family is Verizon, so it's free to call eachother. We save the bulk of our out-of-network calls that need to be made for the weekend so we aren't charged minutes. Most of the time, we are well below the 700 minute marker.

Anyone have one? Whats good and bad about them? I dont use many minutes just to call my mom, to him and most of my friends its free.
My contract is about to expire (not just an upgrade) and FH and I are thinking about closing my account and adding a line onto his plan for me.
