I have hosted some and been to quite a few.
Everyone brings one dozen cookies for each person attending plus one more dozen to eat at the exhange.
All cookies should be pre-packaged in take home wrapping.
Everyone brings their own container to take cookies home in.
We just drink wine and have cookies- no games.
I don't particpate anymore as I love to bake and I found I was getting cookies from Costco, unbaked cookies, rice krispie squares etc, rather than the fancier Christmas cookies we used to exchange.
I've co-hosted one and we served soups and appetizers as well as seasonal drinks like mulled cider. We had our guests bring a couple of dozens of cookies to share and have at the party. Everyone took a few cookies from each batch and put them in the container they brought theirs in. We didn't have any games, just sat around and chatted. It was really nice.

Has anyone hosted one of these? If so, how did it go over and do you have any tips to share? Did you have a small gift exchange in addition (for example, Dirty Santa game, etc) or not?
