I want to make gender reveal cupcakes. I want them to be chocolate on the top and bottom, with a blue or pink vanilla center–but I don’t want it to be that whipped cream stuff, I just want cake batter.
So if I spoon chocolate into the cupcake cups, then a small blop of color, then cover it with chocolate, (1) will the color stay hidden until someone takes a bite, and (2) will it mix so that the color doesn’t show it all?
Or does this sound like it will work?

It should work- people make rainbow cupcakes ( http://bakingbites.com/2009/05/rainbow-cupcakes/) all the time, what you’d be doing is basically making a marble cupcake and not mixing it.
You can also make “cake pops” with this machine: http://thebabycakesshop.com/products/cake-pop-makers/cp-12 and put them (baked) inside the cupcake. Like this blogger did with her cake, she said they did not overbake or anything: http://snowybliss.blogspot.com/2011/09/polka-dot-cake.html

I just found this today which made me think of your question (: It’s essentially the same idea as the ‘cake pop’ idea Natakie16 posted:
