So my deep thought of the day while commuting into the city this morning was that although this is a wedding site, does familiarity breed contempt on Wedding Bee when the post is really and truly wedding related? Sometimes. Stands to reason as those threads are going to be started up the most since most of the posters are here because of their wedding.
As for the latter, the sometimes; no matter how many times they come up a “Found Out He Cheated” thread, or maybe a “That’s it, I’ve Had Enough, It’s OVER” thread will always get a lot of readers and many replies of advice or opinions on the subject matter.
As for the former; I can’t tell you how many times I’ve personally seen “Our Engagement Pics are Back!!!!!!” or “Isadora or ‘insert popular name of dress here’ which dress????” so I think at a certain point our eyes glaze over, and perhaps its because there are only so many times you look at someone’s engagement photos and have something nice to say. Maybe you hate engagement photos? Or maybe the dress that the poster is looking for opinions for is the dress that you wish would be burned, and another one was never stitched together again for as long as you were on the planet.
I feel kind of sad though, for Bees who might be new on here who come excitedly posting about their wedding shoes or their DIY pomanders, only to receive little to no interest from the Hive. I’ve been around here long enough to not take it personally should I get lost in the threads of familiarity, but I hope the newer Bees can see it for what it is, or maybe they just won’t care and will post to their hearts content anyways. I hope so.
That is all. For those of you Bees who cared to read my “Jack Handy-esque” thoughts, thank you 🙂

This is so true!!
Thanks for encouraging me to think deeper and be more conscious of this aspect, while I drink my coffee and review todays posts 🙂

I have noticed this and I always make an effort to look for posts that have no comments on them, because I remember how much it bothered me, when no one was excited for me when I was DIY’ing stuff or snapping pics of my ring.

That is my mission now as well. I will try to stick to stuff I know/am really into so my opinion is a good one. Like the Military section or fashion stuff.
I won’t go into say, a thread about Pomanders b/c I’ve yet to make a single one! lolol! But I will gush about how lovely someones is!

Everything you said is true. But I think there will always be new bees who will get excited about flowers, invites, etc. And some of those drama posts are obviously attention-getting devices. Some bees are really in distress and truly want support and advice. But others seem to be posting just to create a stir.
Which I don’t really mind-drama posts are kind of my fav:) But I prefer to watch most of the time. I tend to reply only to posts where I think I can help in some way and to subjects that I either have knowledge of or am interested in. But I’m not a “gusher” or a “welcomer”. Although I will go out of my way to help someone through, say, a medical or emotional issue if I can.
And this may seem shallow but I will avoid any posts that are badly written or formatted as a solid block of text.

Well please let me apologise re: my weird font. I don’t know wtf I did there lol!
And I hear you too on the drama threads, because let’s face it, they are more fun as they are much more dynamic than the average DIY post.
But that was kind of my point. I didn’t want to lose sight of why a lot of Bees seek this board out.
What joggled this whole thing for me was I was kind of laughing to myself that my own drama-laden “Felt Ripped Off by my Photographer” thread got a TON more interest than my actual thread containing the photos I was referring to. At first I thought “everyone hates my engagement photos.. *cries*” but, although that might be the case for a Bee here or there, the real reason most likely is, engagement photo threads go up by the dozens, weekly. People are immune to them I think 🙂
