Do you drive a manual or automatic vehicle?

I was driving FI and his friend somewhere once, and his friend said to me "Wow, you can drive a standard?" I was like uhh, yea?? Just wondering how many other women drive a standard and if it really is that strange! Ha!

Automatic, but I'd love to learn stick! We just didn't have a car I could learn on.

I can drive a standard but I sadly have an automatic.  When I was looking at cars I wanted a standard but couldn't find one that met my budget.  My parents ended up finding me a reliable used car for a steal but it's an automatic.  So I got stuck with it.  I want my next car to be a stick though.  Which might be a problem since the husband doesn't know how to drive stick yet.

Manual. But I miss having an automatic when my leg hurts the day after I sit in traffic...

I can drive both, but sitting in grid lock in my manual transmission car made my leg tired, so when I bought my new car I went with automatic.  Also, we were thinking we could reduce to one car when we moved in together, and my fiance can't drive standard!

My first car was an automatic, which was super easy to learn to drive.  I still had to go to driving school, and my mom made me learn manual (just in case there was an emergency which required me to drive stick).  I didn't think manual was that hard to learn either, but in my family the person sitting shotgun does all the shifting, so I guess I already understood the concept.

I tried so hard to learn to drive a manual but I'm just not very good at it. It flips me out when someone gets behind me and I get all nervous and end up stalling the car, lol. I do a ton of city driving so a stick isn't really a good idea since I'm not that confident with it.

Manual! You have more control over the car that way, look totally cool, and save money on the car and money for gas. Vroooom

I can't drive a standard, but I wish I could. FI bought a new car this summer, and he bought a manual, and I was happy at first because I thought he would teach me, but he hasn't taken the time to do it yet!!!! It's really annoying, becuase it means I am pretty much dependant on him to drive our car (I drive automatics through a local car co-op I belong to). But it would be so ideal if we could just share one car... I just need him to buck up an teach me.

There should really be an option for a car that has both.  We have an Acura TSX and it can be driven both ways!  Although I don't know how to drive stick :(  the FI only drives the car in manual!  I really gotta learn...I tried a couple of times in a rental and I did so terrible the FI made me get out of the car and stop trying! LOL guess I will stick with automatic!

I have an automatic but I learned on stick and wish I had a stick.  When we left NYC and I got a car, my FI pushed me to get an automatic so he could drive it.  (He claims to know how to drive stick but doesn't like it.)  He made the "in case of emergency" argument and I caved.

In a year and a half, how many times has he driven my car?!  ZERO. I want to trade it in for a standard, but hate the car-buying process way too much.

my car is an automatic, but man do i wish it was manual. it's a little sports car so i feel like i'm missing out by driving a boring auto. alas, i didn't know where id' be working when i bought the car 5yrs ago and didn't want to risk sitting in traffic for 2hrs a day...left foot would die from hitting the clutch. only to find out that i work 5 mins from home. oh wells, next time!

I have an automatic. I wish I knew how to drive a stick but I don't. Everyone in my family knows how to and my brother's first car was a stick but he totaled it before I was able to learn on it.

Automatic and I'm happy that way. I started to learn how to drive a stick shift but I'm honestly not that coordinated or comfortable with it, and I don't want to feel like I am putting my life on the line at my own hands when I get behind the wheel.

I prefer the control of my manual, especially in the snow.  I used to have nightmares when I was little about having to drive my little brother and sisters in a stick shift and freaking out... but once I learned how to drive one, those dreams completely went away!

Our next car is probably going to be automatic with touch shifting for a manual option.

I drive an automatic now because So Cal traffic sucks out your soul and kills your legs when you drive stick. I learned on a stick and my last car was one too. My FI and I both know how to drive stick but we both have automatics right now.

I drive a manual. FHs car is an automatic but loves driving my car because it is a manual and his is an automatic!

its the funniest thing seeing a six foot guy fit into a tiny 2 door car  and better yet when he pulls up at the lights and there is some guy sitting in a hot up sport car revving there engine.

This is not my exact car of course but its the same model.

I have both, my daily driver is a stick and our third vehicle is an automatic, and what I drive to school since its in the city and i have to sit in traffic.  Hubs bought my car and taught me how to drive my car, and now I'm a pro and would never go back.  I love the control of the car and being able to downshift and all that.

I get that comment all the time from guys which is quite funny b/c almost all of my close girlfriends happen to have standard cars while almost none of my guy friends do.  Not exactly  scientific study, but it's kind of funny to me.

woop woop!  i REFUSE to drive an automatic.  i hate them.  hate.  hate.  hate.  I like "interactive" driving (thats what i call it!) plus i drive a fast car.  i see absolutely NO POINT in driving a sports car in an automatic.  i actually had to custom order my car just to get it in a manul (damn you, BMW)

I never learned to drive a stick. My mom culdn't drive one so my parents never owned one, so I was unable to learn. I relly don't think I'd ever want one, but I would like to know how to drive one in case of emergency.

my dad always had a stick so they made me learn on his car. and i've always had one too. my husband doesn't know how to drive it though... and we'll be ttc soon which means if we do have a baby we'll be switching cars (mine's a 2 door and too small for a baby), which means he'll learn stick and i'll get his automatic. which weirds me out, haven't driven one in so long!

I can only drive an automatic....and DH can only drive a standard!  I barely let him drive my automatic because he is so used to a stick that he slams down on the "clutch."  which, in my car means he slams down on the brake....randomly...in the middle of the road!  Hello, whiplash!  I am far too afraid to ever have him drive an automatic once we have a child in the car.
