My weird phobia is totally white rooms.  I had a dream when I was little that I was in a totally white room alone that I couldn’t get out of.  A few years ago we went on a trip and in a hotel the bathroom was completely white.  I was already freaked out and then the door kept getting jammed while I was in there.  I love that I got to look like a complete nutcase in front of my FMIL and FBIL by banging on the door and yelling at my FI to get me out.  I honestly swore I was going to die in there.  I think they also remind me of insane asylums.

Fireworks!

When I was a kid, my family and I went to our local park for Fourth of July. There was a group of stupid high school kids playing with fireworks not too far from us. One of them malfunctioned and instead of throwing it in the OPPOSITE direction of people, they threw it right at our group. The firework landed about a foot infront of me and exploded. It burned my leg pretty badly. I never saw my dad actually kick someones ass before that!

Ever since I’ve had a serious fireworks complex. I can deal with them if they are far enough away to where they can’t possibly hit me but if they are somewhat close, forget about it!

I absolutely will not step onto the “man holes” or “sewage holes” in fear that I will fall through. I avoid them at all cost. Pretty much anything that opens up to the ground below me, I won’t step on.

Chuck E. Cheese – or really, anyone dressed up in an animal costume. Freaking terrifying.

I’m also petrified of fire, but that one is a bit more justified, as my family’s house burned down when I was 4! But still, I’m a little pathetic about it, haha.

I don’t know if this is “weird,” but it’s weird to me.

I’m basically afraid of talking on the phone to anyone other than my immediate family. Having to answer a phone or make a call makes me sweat and feel nauseated and sometimes puts me on the verge of tears. I wish I knew why it happens, but I have no idea.

I will not answer a ringing phone unless I know who it is and exactly what I am going to have to say. If I have to call someone, like for work, I’ll put it off as long as I can and have to mentally prepare myself to do it.

On the rare occasion that I successfully make a phone call that puts a lot of pressure on me, such as something work-related, I feel good about it and think it will be easier the next time, but it never is.

@windmills: Not weird at all! I have the same problem with talking on the phone, but not to that extreme. Pretty much have an anxiety attack if I have to talk to someone I don’t know. And if my FI makes me, like ordering pizza, I have to have everything written out on paper before hand so I have the answer to each question.

My own fears are pretty typical, but my friend is terrified of Barbie dolls. She had a nightmare about one as a child and to this day she can’t be in the same room as one.

@MademoiselleL: ET is pretty damn scary. I never thought of him as cute or lovable even though all my friends adored him. I thought he was gross, especially his long fingers. Eww and when he was dying and all diseased looking, I didn’t feel bad for him or cry like the other kids, I was even more grossed out!

@HotPinkPopTart: I write things down, too, and I get worried that someone will ask a question I can’t answer. I used to have a boss who made us make calls for her all the time without giving us all the background on the questions we were asking, and it was so frustrating!

I have the weird phobia of talking to people on the phone too.  This is horrible, but I don’t even like to talk to family on the phone – I’d rather text.  Something about not having anything to say and making small talk is frustrating to me.  Plus when I have to answer 50 questions when I had just talked to the person also annoys me.

Other weird phobias:

Not really a phobia, but I think handkerchiefs are the most disgusting thing ever.

Kitchen sinks and dishrags also gross me out – so many germs!  They have more germs than toilet seats, which is appalling.

I also hate drinking out of cups and glasses – I feel like they are never clean enough.  I’d rather drink out of cans or bottles, all the time.

@cherrycoke:  Every time I take a cup down from the cabinet our out of the dishwasher, I smell it before I put any liquid inside for that very reason…weird!!
