My FI and I were having a discussion about multiple births...I was reading a story to him about a woman who gave birth to triplets. So that led to a discussion about twins...FIs mom is a twin, her dad is a twin, and so on and so forth back for several generations. This led me to google chances of having twins and I discovered some things:
-The older the woman, the greater the chance of having twins
-having a child previously increases the chances of having twins
-being slightly overweight
-eating casava root....
now this is where it gets funny...so I was reading all of this to my FI and he said...babe...all of that describes you. I told him that 3 out of 4 describe me but I have never eaten a casava root in my life. He starts laughing and says...you know that fried yucca you love to eat from your favorite Caribbean restaraunt....yucca and casava is the same thing!!
Oh Lawd!! Combine that with the fact that I have been prepping the body for conception for the last few months...eating fresh fruits and veggies, some lean read meat, lots of dairy, vitamins and we may just have a problem. Somebody will have to scrape me off the floor if I get pregnant with twins. Let's hope all of that stuff above is a myth. I like my babies 1 at a time.
I dunno - I can't lie. The idea of 2 at once... 2 birds w/ one pregnancy? Done and done. Might not be that bad. LOL
Aw, I think that's cool! My mom is a twin, and I want to have twins SO bad!!
I see moms of twins struggle in the first few months, but after that things would be really great :) I hope you get whatever you want!
i've told my husband before I'd love to have twins (he's not a fan of the idea...) but i've always been interested by multiples. :)
My crazy FI wouldn't mind it if we had 2 or 3 at once...he is like you Dancy..excited about the prospect of 1 and done =)
I am hoping that his sister will be the one to produce twins since he has 2 kids from single births =)
@jabride: adorably funny!! we aren't having anymore little ones, but i'd be scared to scared to death of having 2 if we decided on one more, just be my luck :D
haha, funny story
My grandmother had twins at age 46 in the 1950s. True story! Guess I better be careful!
That's so funny you brought this up! My neighbor got married about 2 months before we did and she's been telling me we should try to get pregnant about the same time. And she wants twins! She thinks we should both have twins! She was telling me everything you just said about being older (we're both in our early 30's), I'm slightly overweight, she's already had a couple kids. So she was telling me we need eat the casava.
@crebre...we are looking forward to having kids surprisingly. You would think that being a single mother all these years would have turned me off of kids completely =)
@jaylii...oh my goodness....according to the chart I looked up on goodle..the chances of multiples increases dramatically after age 45. I definitely will NOT be waiting that long to have kids. Whatever I don't have in the next 3 to 4 years, I won't get...LOL
@tessabella....I am thinking of giving up casava (yucca) altogether. It is so delicious when it's fried. I had no idea I was increasing my chances for multiples...LOL!
I'm a twin! = ) In fact for the first 18 years of our lives we were only children. Only in the last couple years did my Dad and step Mom have kids. It was cool most of the time. I dated a twin once, and my grandma said if we got married we'd have twins. lol.
Oh! I love twins. Other peoples twins that is, cause I have no intention of having any kids:-] Sounds like you better be prepared Jamaica!
@arizona...say it ain't so. I mean I love kids...and I will deal with it if it happens...but I wasn't happy to find out that I unknowingly increased my chances of having twins
This is a couple years old (2007). But here we are-sorry! I couldn't resist!
I've been told that twins skip a generation so Mr N and I both have a possibility of having them - I have twin aunts and he has twin uncles.
Whoever mentioned it would be nice to do it all at once...I totally have this thought too! We want two children eventually and I'm totally okay with either situation. I think it would definitely be hard at first.
I don't think I'm any more likely to have twins though.
@His Barista....I heart freckles!! Did you guys fight like cats and dogs...or were you inseparable??
@nachos...not in FIs family...there is at least 2 sets of twins in each generation on his mother's side
. It's either him or his sister...my vote is either none or his sister..LOL
@crebre....just wrong...FI had to tell his mom abt our conversation....she wants grandbabies like yesterday. She already has 2 but she didn't get to spend a whole lot of time with them when they were younger.
@HB: ADORABLE!!! Y'all were soo cute!! Reminds me of punky brewster
@JB: either none or his sister lmao!! you have me cracking up laughing...
There is something magical about twins. I guess I might be thinking the grass is greener because my brother and were not close at all and 5 years apart. I knew so many twins and they always seemed so close. I know that carrying them, birthing them, etc. would be crazy but if you have a supportive family, I think it would be amazing.
I didn't know you were a twin His Barista! Learn something new every day :)
@arizona...my FI and his sister are 16 years apart almost to the day (his b-day is Christmas Eve, hers is Christmas). The idea of having a big family is appealing to both of them. His mom didn't have twins...but her twin sister had twins. Somebody in that family has twins every stinkin' generation.
I..on the other hand..have no twins in the family...but I do have 6 siblings..me and two of my sister's are "stepping stones". I am 34, the next one 35, the next one 36...and we fought like cats and dogs ALL the time. I am STILL not overly close to either one...LOL.
I guess I could live with twins (I am saying that like I would only take 1 home or something...lol) but I certainly don't want to set myself up for twins. Oh well....too late now....might as well keep eating yucca.
My FI's sister had twins, so it is his generation. But, I'm pretty scared about it, my FI weighed an outrageous 12 lbs 6 ozs when he was born. My uterus would hate me forever!!
Does anyone know if the woman or the man carries the gene for twins? I've never heard a definative answer.
When we were little there were a few times we literally tried to kill each other. lol. We got along probably around 87% of the time...sometimes better. We both played flute, and I talked her into cheerleading junior year. She talked me into track senior year. We kinda knew what the other was up to at all times. lol. I wish I had a more recent picture of us. lol.
If we stay with my Sister, we have to wear different colors because my FI can't tell the difference if his contacts are out!
I found one from our AZ trip! Mwahaha! Which do you think is me?
@His Barista....the twin on the right is you....that's my final answer...LOL
So...am I right?
I'm on the left on the bottom, right on top. lol. Sis Barista and I just recently both got our hair cut short and went back to a natural color. So when I move in March, I'll have to show you guys a new one! lol.
My FI and I both have twins in the family, so I think it's be interesting to have them.
If I could choose, I sooo want twins! Since my hubby is a twin I hope that increases our chances, but I don't think so. His Barista, I didn't know you were a twin, either!
I'm starting to think I've never mentioned it. I may just naturally call her my sister and that's it. lol.
@His Barista...if you have twins, you would have your mom as a resource so that would be cool. Plus you would definitely be able to relate to your kids.
I just remember how big my tummy got with my daughter. The thought of that times 2 makes my tummy hurt...lol
Haha. Oh, I know. That'd be the cool part! I should track down pictures of my Mom's prego belly. It was crazy!
@HB: how hilarious that they your fi can't tell you apart without his contacts!! you should wear a purple string around your hand or something.
He could never tell us apart on the phone, either. lol. My BIL Has a little less trouble, but if he has no glasses, he has a hard time, too. Oh, the tricks we used to play on the subs in class! lol.
@HB: my mom, sister, and i all sound alike.. when i went home for gustav or christmas (i cannot remember which it was) M called and held a long conversation with my mom and finally she asked if he wanted to talk to me and he was like ummm yeah yes ma'am... it was hilarious.. he told me i needed to change my voice.
Oooh twins! I don't know if I would want to have twins - it would be trying caring for two newborns at the exact same time! But it would result in two children from one pregnancy - ooooh I just don't know!
The first thing I thought when I read the post was: What the hell is casava? I hope it doesn't taste too bad bc I'm pounding it when I try to get pregnant!
I would love to have kids because I want 2 and FI wants 1, plus I'd like to get the baby-stage over asap.
I think I would prob rather have fraternal rather than identical though. I think its hard when you grow up with same-sex siblings close in age... if we had one of each there wouldn't be so much competition.
