Oooh, SanDiegoAli, that sounds super cute! I like that idea. I think that's what I've seen being the big color this summer.
I've also seen flourescent colors - pink, orange, etc.

I totally agree with SanDiegoAli - Turquiose blue and teal are always fun!
Mermaid to Order by OPI for Sephora has been my go-to color for a few years now.
I'm a nail polish fiend! I've been about the deep blues, turquoise, coral, yellow, jade, and oranges. Bright shades, no mauvey looks, and no slightly shimmery color. If you want shimmer, get the OPI polish with the sparkles in it! The frosted look is a no-go. Nails and toes don't have to match, but coordinating is good, and neither have to be neutral. I'm currently wearing 2 essie shades - one from the new summer collection - Knockout pout. It's basically hot pink - a great summer color. Other specific favorites: turquoise and caicos, lilacism, and lapis of luxury.
Less bright trends that i've liked have been that mousey grey/platinum color. I like to stick with essie (b/c i can predict the polish's behavior/dry times), and their color that goes that direction is playa del platinum. Weird neutral, but fun.

I've been really into orange tones - like an orange red or bright orangey pink. I've got the red orange going on right now and it's fun. I can't wear neutral tones because with my pale skintone it looks weird/nonexistant/stupid.
@ Melissabegins: Done & Done!! To celebrate our new friendship I say we go out and grab a double baco cheeseburger and a litre o' cola.
neutrals are actually quite popular at the moment but slightly different ones, for example, mushroom beige/brown and light grey. For brights, I agree with SanDiegoAli, turquoise is also quite popular, as are deep red and light jade green.

The hot color is Chanel's Nouvelle Vague, but it's sold out everywhere. You can get some pretty good knock-offs though. China Glaze's "For Audrey" is a pretty damn good match.
how fun! trust me, my inner self craves these colors more than neutrals, it's just that my office environment is a combination of uber traditional and tom-boy if that makes any sense (hi-tech...nuff said)
right now I'm leaning towards a turquoise for my toes & a brighter pink for my fingers, then some of the NEW neutral colors I can use other weeks...Thanks!
@scissors: I heart for Audrey! Such a fun color. I actually had my nails painted with "For Audrey" when I interviewed for my job.... My boss commented on how he liked the color... I think it was my in.

I don't think I'm following trends at all, in fact yellow is probably "out" this year, but my toe nails are currently bright yellow and I get comments on it all the time.
I have OPI's "Greenwich Village" and I love that on my toes. I don't paint my fingernails though, I like to leave those natural.
Oh, and I forgot my nails are often American, but I am loving my toe nail polish name "My Chihuahua Bites"!
Here's my go to color and I plan on wearing it for the wedding! I Love black and the glitter in it gives it the less "gothy" feel

@melissabegins & @punkybrewster - i'm currently wearing the exact same lilacism from essie :) loveee it.
@cannotwait - My favorite brands are Essie and Orly, they do no wrong in my book :) I just picked up a couple new Essie's from Ulta - they're having a buy two get one free sale! right now I'm using a lot of fun pastels (purple/green)...I'm also really big into coral colors. coral more so for when i'm working...its colorful but not too in your face for the office!
Check out Sephora! They just came out with a ton of bright, fun, new colors!! I'm really loving their purples!!
LOVE opaque pastels...currently wearing OPI's Shrek colors: Who the Shrek are you? (funky spring green) & What's with the Cattitude? (cool, but not so innocent baby blue). But I'm also in love with bright oranges & corals right now...OPI for Sephora's Hi-Def is Great!

I love the Rescue Beauty Lounge polishes. They always have the coolest colors. Right now I'm doing the grey/taupe neutrals. I love Rescue Grunge, and the Playa del Platinum that Melissabegins mentioned.
I'm wearing Essie's Lilacism! I see a TON of lilacs, and light blues. I'm considering wearing the light blue OPI Shrek on my toes for our wedding as my "something blue". I don't like the color much, but I'm wearing closed toe shoes so I figure it doesnt matter much anyways :)

So, I used to subscribe to (beauty) mags and know the trends, but I actually stopped a few years ago bc a) I started a weekend degree b) sometimes they made me have low self-esteem. But, I really miss knowing the (not-necessarily-expensive) trends, like nail polish colors.
What do you think are the trendy colors for this summer (not for a wedding)? I usually get very neutral colors for where I work, but now that my nails are shorter, and I'm having a party this weekend, I want to go bolder for once (toes bolder than fingers most likely). Help a girl out!
