lol great minds think alike!! i posed this question in my blog either late yesterday or early this morning!!
We started using only organic products, and it's SOOO much easier to clean now! I was surprised what a huge impact that had...
Ooh. Here's a couple: Don't forget to wipe down the general grime on the kitchen cabinets and baseboards; don't forget about underneath the range hood, either! And using a squeegee to clean windows makes them so much cleaner looking.
PS-to make it smell really good before they come, use some carpet fresh (just a little!) on your air filters where your A/C or heat air intakes are, or just put carpet fresh in a couple of places around the room (it can be really strong otherwise). There's a vanilla one that just reminds me of holidays!!!
Let's see...Fabuloso or Mean Green for the showers
Window cleaner for your fixtures
Plus...I just love the smell of Pine-Sol in general. It just reminds me of clean =)
Clorox gives me the same smell of clean if that makes sense.. unfortunately i cannot find my cleaning products?! shows how much i clean, right?! m must have taken them to the club...
for your toliet... The Works...
Not organic, but cleans like the dickens. haha
A cleaning lady! We just hired one and I feel so spoiled. But seriously, I put baking soda boxes in the fridge to combat nasty fridge smell. They make those special ones with big tear-off sides.
@cinema: most definitely!! i'll be there this week to get my place spic and span! i feel soo much like myself again lately that it's ridiculous and looking around my house i wonder how or why m stayed lol!! i just got off of a hormonal birth control.
To clean a yucky microwave:
Put half a lemon in a bowl of water and microwave for 5 mintues. Don't open the microwave for another 5 minutes after it's done. Then open it, take out the bowl and wipe microwave clean, The steamy lemon water cuts through the grease and makes it smell good too!
oh my gosh!
you guys are all awesome. I am definitely going to use some of these tricks! thank you thank you!
does anyone have a trick for a stinky sink? I think our garbage disposal kind of smells a little and I cannot figure out how to get it to smell better!
Take the lemon from cleaning the microwave and grind it up in the disposal. It will smell better!
I just got the best glass cleaner! Sprayway worlds best glass cleaner!
Also, a little bucket filled with cleaner + water and a little rag ... wipe everything!
Fresh sheets!
My two favorite cleaning products are 50% vinegar, 50% water in a spray bottle, and Simple Green. Vinegar is great for basically everything, particularly when combined with baking soda for baked-on stains, and it's the only thing I know that will get our dogs' noseprints off windows! Simple Green is fabulous for any sort of greasy residues and cleaning toilets/bathrooms.
If you have some time, check out "Home Comforts" by Cheryl Mendelson from your library...both interesting to read and informative on the whys and hows subject of keeping house.
I love clorox cleanup, it's the only thing that gets stains out of our white countertop.
We got a kit of green cleaning supplies as a wedding gift, the laundry detergent worked great. I keep meaning to try out the rest of the stuff.
okay i just finished using 409 to clean up the bathroom... but i definitely need to get witht he lemon trick!!
Def invest in Magic erasers! I love them and they get up almost everything!
I also vacuum and spray Febreeze on the couch to make it less cat hair-y and smell better than kitty butt :D
You can also pour bleach down your disposal to clean it up and deal with the smell. They make cleaner that look like dishwasher things to grind up in the diposal to help clean it and make it smell nice.
@ HumarockBride: Vinegar & baking soda, my favorite thing for smelly sinks! Put some of both down the drain, then cover it up. Boil a pot of water and once it starts boiling pour it down the sink...the smell is gone!
I just learned a trick the other day for when you can't get the smell out of plastic containers. Wash them out with the hottest water you can them immediately rinse with cold water.

Now don't get me wrong, I know how to clean!! And we're pretty clean people to begin with. But I'm looking for any and all of your favorite cleaning materials, secrets, and any general "keep things sparkling" suggestions!
