I have been headhunted a few times.
I am happy where I am but I see no harm in having an informal conversation (especially when I have salary reviews coming up in the next few months!).
Do you speak with companies who approach you? did you find your current job by being headhunted?

Not quite being “head hunted” – I’ve gotten a few calls from places who initially didn’t hire me because they would have had to pay me more based on my qualifications who later called (within a year) to offer me the job. I’m happy where I am and often they were not able to even meet my current salary and would have required relocation. So I just politely declined.
Since I’ve never been offered significantly more money to leave my job it’s not something I bring up at my current job. However, I’ve developed a good list of contacts and employers should anything ever happen with my current job I feel like I have some good places to start if I needed/wanted to move on.

@linnylou_88: I have been headhunted a few times. I am in my new position because of it. And get a call every few months with new positions that would be a good fit for me. None of them have been worth taking yet. I keep an open mind when they do call because you never know what they have to offer! And its good to have those figures from other companies when my reviews come around.

I’m always looking, but it has to be worth my time. 🙂

I tell them I would be happy to hear more about the opportunity. That I am not actively looking but would consider changiing positions for the right opportunity.

I have this position as a result of a headhunter. I always listen to what they have to offer – I am not going to burn any bridges. If it is something I am not interested in after I know more about it, I thank them, and tell themn at this time I am not in a place to change jobs. I would be glad to hear more opportunities from them in the future as my situation may change.

I’ve been headhunted as well, but I always politely turn them down. Most of the job offers have been in different states, and I don’t want to relocate.

I absolutely meet with them and make the connection. If could lead to a future job – which is good for both you and them – so why not? More connections is always a good thing! I’ve only been headhunted locally, since there are so many biotech/pharma companies here. I love my current job, but if that ever changed, I like knowing I have contacts!
