I completed my first 10km race yesterday, and clearly I did not stretch enough/drink enough water because in the middle of the night, I started getting the worst muscle spasms/cramps in my hamstrings, calves and ankles. DH – Bless his heart because he woke up with me every time I screamed in agony to comfort me and then ran me a hot bath with epsom salts at 3am, gave me a banana (for potassium) and encouraged me to drink lots more water. I couldn’t even drive to work this morning, and I’m still suffering.
Any ideas on how to further sooth these cramps/spasms?

Ryansgirl: I often get cramping in my legs, and I started taking magnesium in the midlde of my pregnancy, and I haven’t had a leg crap since, like, February or March. It’s been amazing. Maybe check into that?
I realize yours are from exercise, but it may still help. Also, make sure the stay hydrated and stretch before and after working out. I’m not sure what else you can do right now apart from maybe some Icy Hot or Biofreeze.

sitting in the sauna and slow stretching always helps me out when this happens

Be sure to eat plenty of protein. Massage also helps me along with stretching.
